    Hardest game ever made?

    Well, what is it?

I would say Actraiser II, an SNES game made by... Konami I think.

side scroller where you were 'The Master', a dude that lives on a cloud and comes down n' fight monsters to save the people. But God damn, everything was so difficult. Enemies were twice as hard as they would be in any other game

Like in those sidescrollers, those wiener bat fellows were always the 1-hit-kill wussies. But in Actraiser II, those bats smaller than your sword took two hits. Your limited magic was also really weak. In games like Shinobi the magic would have a cool power like "kill everyone on the screen", in Actraiser it was like... getting 1 shot of a Rockman move. Shooting a little flame took up a magic scroll and it doesn't even guarantee you'll kill that damn goblin. The bosses though, they generally stuck to a pattern so they were more reasonable than the levels full of too-tough grunts.

My brother somehow beat that game without cheating, I don't know how but he did. You should be mailed a trophy for accomplishing something like that. Had a cool feel, and loved the ending.

Maybe it should be split into categories...

since Actraiser II is a sidescroller, I say it is the hardest sidescroller ever made

the hardest vs game (or one with the cheesiest boss) goes to Guilty Gear and that super-cheesed Justice.

hardest RPG... most really aren't hard, you just need to level up. But Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga has the hardest secret boss ever made.

    I guess it is
"Serious Sam" no matter which Encounter ...just try to play it on difficulty-level "Serious"...alone its impossibel...the enemy are a unrelenting army with nuclear warheads and you are a 12 year old boy with a stick....at least it feels that way good that SeriousSam offers a Coop-Option...it can be a real pleasure to melt down the hordes with 7 other buddies

oh and RPG = FinalFanatsyX...secret Boss = "The Judge"...although i have to say that i never played other RPGS lie the FF Games and Morrowind (ok...i play Fallout2 here and there and sometimes a bit Arx Fatalis but that doesnt count bnecause its not very often and i dont know both games very well

I'd say Elwell has this one right. However, in the video game world, I'd say the Star Wars for games SNES. I think though that the difficulty in those was that you had to start over from the beginning when you lost all your lives.

Aww!!! I forgot about that one! Never did beat it. Another one that didn't let you save your progress. Ahh...I remember the good old days of being forced to play a level 34 times just to get to the next level.

The hardest that I ever played.
It is called Biohazard or Biometal (I think Biometal). It was a side scroll shooter for the SNES and IIRC there were so many bullets/rockets/laser beams flying in my direction.
A reviewer wrote that is was a nice game just that hadn't seen anything beyon level three or five (I am not sure any more).
It was possible but you need to know where they will be coming and what you need to kill first to create at least something that looked like a corridor where you could fly through.

Woah, woah, woah! What??!?!! "The Judge?" I can't find any information on this boss. I thought that I had beaten almost everything on the game (all but the monster arena) and I've never heard of this. Could you ellaborate? Are you talking about Nemesis in the monster arena?
I can't find anything about "The Judge"

Maybe he's talking about Penance. There's a judge in FF Tactics (FFXII) too. I've done some tons of FFX research back in the day and haven't read that word on any FAQ, so maybe he just made a mistake.

Oh, and FFX is probably the greatest pain i've had in the days of "modern" gaming. Not beating the game itself, but rather the obscene amount of tedious work you have to do for those extra bonuses that will last you for what, the last 5% of the game (if that)? It's one thing i hate about these rpgs, that they show this total inability to distribute them sidequests effectively. No, you have to get it all lumped together at the end of the game (when you just feel like wasting time), so you can spend another 10 hours+ pressing the same 3 buttons over and over. So you can go beat that inconsequential turd over at the ass-end of the non-existing world map.

ah, man, yeah, the arcades would guilt you into playing again

like one of the Ninja gaidens I think...
It shows the ninja captured, and as the timer goes down, a buzz saw gets closer to killing him.
Or there was one where you were tied up, and if you didn't continue, you would be drowned by rising waters.

I think there was another game where you got executed by a giant gun robot.
"PUT IN QUARTERS OR HE DIES!"

K-17, I agree about FFX. I spent a total of 100+ hours on that game, the last 25-30 being the sidequests to get all the extras.

Contra III was pretty fricken hard back in the day. Ikaruga is very difficult as well. DDR is tough at first, too, but darn fun =)

I second that. Ikaruga is by far the hardest game I have ever played. It's insane. But also very cool.

A few I can think of for the NES:
Rygar: Last boss always got me with his 'bow-ties'.
Blaster Master: I actually got to lvl7 or 8, most people died from the bubble-crab (lvl5)
Trojan: Don't remember much from this one other than it was hard. Got to lvl 2 or 3.
Ghost'n Goblins: Worst scrolling routine ever. Really poopy agility on the knight guy and only 2 hitpoints!
Batman: Completed this with a friend. He threw me the joypad in desperation when he was out of special weapons and the last boss almost had him. I found a stupid bug and punched the sucker to death (in the croth).

Jamen jag tror att han skäms, och har gömt sig. Vårt universum det är en av dom otaliga spermasatser som Herren i sin självhärliga ensamhet har runkat fram för å besudla intet.

I just bought Capcom Classical Collection and it has the hardest collection of games ever made...

    Ghost N Goblins
    Ghouls N Ghosts
    Super Ghouls N Ghosts
    Forgetten Worlds
    Trajan

    ...among others...

it also has the original arcade version of Street Fighter II, Champion Edition, and Turbo, as well as Final Fight. I was HELLA stoked when I was playing Forgotten Worlds. I had it on the Sega Genesis and it was a pain to rotate your guy, but with the PS2 analog pads it's real easy, and maximes the fun! That game fuckin kicks ass!

When I see all the horrendous art in those games... makes me wonder how hard it must have been to be a video game artist (not very hard at all).

    yep!

EDIT: It has a total of 22 games and it was only $19.99 ! I was so happy I shit my pants!
