long time listener..first time caller. MORE Past work (UPDATE 10-5-05)

Been lurking around this great site for a while...thought Id post some of my past work...
the character stuff was in painter using the tapered brush and fine detail under airbrush
The sepia stuff (PS) are BGs for an X-box title done at Brainzoo studios. Effects and a camera would later be added to zoom in/pan through a scene with characters, and a voice-over narrating the story - very storybook feel to it.
flying insects..yes I know I shouldn't have copied and paste them...
key frame for a WWII movie
    various color keys...
    Crits welcome...

Whoa. Awesome concepts. The two paintings with the swamp and those Asian structures catch my eye because they would look awesome for a crossfighting game like Street Fighter or King Of Fighters. The drawings at the top are very cool too. The only brushes that I have are the ones photoshop gives me. Could I download special brushes specifically for drawing and painting? Anyhow, these are all great. Very inspiring.

Very nice work! I particularly like the black and white stuff! In fact it's all pretty cool! Keep posting! BTW, if you are Rascar Capac, why've you got a picture of Ranko as your avatar? Shouldn't you be a bony green corpse!

Those color keys are beautiful. Were they for a particular project?

Ammoburger - you're right on the money - it was for a multi-player X-box live fighting game called Iron Pheonix. As far as brushes for drawing - I use painter...mostly the airbrush and conte tools. For PS - I recommend the brushes that come with the Intuos 3 tablet.

Posh - Thanks for the comments -
I had a big smile on my face when I read your comment...I knew it was just a matter of time till someone asked me. Yes, at first I wanted to put the mummy as my avatar but thought a gorilla with a scottish hat is much funnier...I had already registered under Rascar so it was too late to change my name...although I love the mummy's name - its been stuck in my head since I read it as a kid - probably the creepiest thing in the tintin series.

Gorilla - Thanks, no they were just random color keys that I enjoy doing - guess which one was inspired by prince of egypt...

Yeah, Rascar Capac gave me nightmares when I was little! :o

Nice stuff here. In particular I like the top left and right female head sketches, they catch my eye for some reason.

The colour key pieces are cool, they have a light, airy and open feel to all of them, which I enjoy.

By contrast, those Japanese-style dark paintings feel much more secluded, but it really works well there, and I like the painting style too.

For some reason my favourite piece here is the one of the curving steps with the Incan (?) head sculptures on either side - probably just because I'm a sucker for that method of drawing.

S'all good stuff, keep it up!

Nice updates! I love your style. The environments have a lot of moody/ loneliness going on.

YES! Well, I'm a gamer so if I can notice that, then you've obviously done a good job. I'll definately investigate those brushes since I have Intuos 3. Thanks a lot! Good luck with that game, I'll look out for it.

I'm looking foward to the step by step.
And because of the other stuff, here are my crits:
    - the character designs are pretty good from the technical point of view. But you should spend more time on the design itself. Make (or post) more studys of your characters. More details. And don't focus on the head. Everything is important.
    - The insect painting looks really fast, spend more time on this. Same with the airplane painting.

Wow, beautiful pieces you've got here. I LOVE the way you do your environments, they all have such a great feel to them; the colored ones all have great moods as well. Also must say the head studies are absolutely amazing as well. You've got a great style, man, keep up the amazing stuff!

definitely- Im getting more and more into doing the full figure vs just heads ...specially cause of my growing interest in costume design.
And as far as my paintings - I usually get the feel, action, mood right away and then get bored as it comes to actually finishing a piece! Especially because they are for production purposes and as long as the idea is communicated...theres no need/time to spend rendering the hell out of it.
But I'm slowing down in my latest work..Im also currently in a sight-size class working on a 50 hour pose which which is the ultimate test in patience...

I like this stuff all the way around. The environments are terrific and the characters have lots of well, character! (Especially those first ink-line characters IMO)

I was gonna ask about the avatar when you first started posting... thanks for the explanation. Nice to see another "Tintin" fan that's not afraid to admit it.

Asoir - would you be so kind as to tell me what your avatar is screaming? Its driving me nuts...

vigo - that was the point..really quick reads

Theo - I wasnt scared away...post some more stuff so I can rip it to shreds...

Hey Dude, great site you posted in Reffs! There is something magical about old abandoned stuff like that, all the hopes and dreams of the people that walked in the corridors, and now just empty carcasses, but have held so much fate in their hands. ANyway back to reality, I like your stuff, especiallt the enviros for the vid game, look very atmospheric. And the windmillthing with smoke comin out of the chimney.
    Now post more damn it!
