Fascinating article. Great retrospective of images. Some work, some don't, but his reputation and success make his every stroke worthy of note.

    Thank you for sharing this.

It does the heart good to see a modern artist making money on something other than grotesque installations or bizarre preformence pieces.
Perhaps the Avant guards strangle hold on the art world is beginning to slip.

I'm sorry, but I've seen better...why is he the richest?

I think all you gotta do is act a little crazy, tormented and boastful and you can fool anybody into thinking you're a genius. Intimidating people seems to be the key to success.

[NOTE] Lots of nipples and clevage equals good art, and money.....[/NOTE]

I'd rather look at Syd Mead stuff......

Well- I think Avant garde should only be highly respected when you can use that skill with... Well, skill. When you do something differently to create crap, I say fuck you. If you can do something remotley interesting, then sure, I'll say you're Avant-Garde. Now why the heck did I just say that?

...this guy is a fucking idiot.

I don't hate him for making lots of money though, but I find it amusing that there are people out there who are willing to pay rediculous amounts for relatively low technical skill.

Because he thinks he's on par with Ruebens, Leonardo DaVinci, Rembrandt and is the last in line of the great artists and he has no next of kin...

I represent the Saatchi gallery, and you sound like a genius!

Argh, haven't heard of this guy before, but he's clever. In a sense of working his way to millions with no skill. I don't think i'll take that path though.

Emm, I'm going to go against the flow here and suggest that compared with much of the crap that passes for modern British art , this guy is not actually that bad.

If you don't believe me, google Tracey Emin or Damien Hirst.

He knows where the big money is. Basically any of the pro artists here could be instant-millionaires if you can promote yourself among some wealthy saudis. They have way more money than they know what to do with.

    DUDES!!!

this guy seriously has an attitude problem... but then again.. I'd evolve into a total idiotic asshole and egomaniac too if I'd recieve the same amount of money for such middle quality art...

damn.. i think i need to paint some portraits of the leaders of dubai, go down there, boast into whatever building they live in and scream:

"I DID THESE IN A MENTAL HOSPITAL WITH MY FEET WHILE WEARING A STRAIGHJACKET AND WHISTELING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OF URUGUAI! GIVE ME TEN MILLION AND I SHALL CHANGE THE HISTORY OF ART IN THE ARABIAN WORLD WHILE JUMPING ON A POGO STICK AND QUOTING WILLIAM BLAKE!!!"

seriously.. sometimes I just think someone needs to push the red button and leave the world to the cockroaches...

this article just killed my sense of logic...

"How do you know you're good enough?" "You know." "What if you're wrong?" "You find out."
