    Digital Paint Test

here is my first digital paint, the monitor i am using while uploading the photo is really dark, and i think busted so it won;t let me calibrate It so let me know if it indeed to dark or not so i can lighten it up, cause the monitor i was workin on previously looked fine. Crits welcome, this is far from finished remember that haha.

    hey vances22....
I know what it's like to be heavy handed.
my hand is so heavy it just broke my desk. Seriously though, back when i was doing pencil sketches i had to move to a 6H or else all my pencil work would be too dark. You might want to try doing some work in ink, loosely. I like all the anatomy studies i'm seeing here. if they are all very recent then i'm VERY impressed! that didn't come out right... Anyways, good work... I like how you are getting things so clean with the 6H. Let's see some fully rendered pencil stuff and maybe ink one or two. i bet you'd do really well with that! will check back soon. thanks for posting in the blood wearied skrawl tome!

    cheers,
    joel

    Updates...been so long

Well Guys its been months now, and i have posted nothing, all that has existed is crap in the sketchbook and i am attempting to take it to the next level anyway this is what i have done this week, i am going to try and update weekly from now on. This is my samurai i am working on. Crits welcome.

Phase 1: I was bored totally not wanting to draw, but i did it anyway cause i want to improve, it was more i was uninspired so i just started throwing down random lines. I found a samurai.....

    Vance's Various Doodles...I won't be afraid anymore 3/05/07

Phase 2: here i played witha few silohouetes/gestures and played with some faces and what not, trying to feel him out a bit.

    Vance's Various Doodles...I won't be afraid anymore 3/05/07

Phase 3: Played with some face stuff, i tried combingin face elements via a peers suggestion to do so, and i started playing with the costume idea and weapon.

    Vance's Various Doodles...I won't be afraid anymore 3/05/07

Phase 4: Here i am just doing different heads,. trying to see if i can re-create the stylization and changing things, trying not to commit to one thing.

Nice, especially the self-portrait and that samurai. I like the smooth style of the samurai in the four-heads image (phase 4).
I don't know if it's just my monitor or not, but your gesture sketches (e.g. the ones with a bunch of faces) seem like they bleach out to white in parts. If it's not just my monitor, and if you have photoshop or something, I'd suggest upping the contrast of future scans, or Curves.
I'm glad you came back (after months of no posts in here), keep it up!

You have some really nice anatomy work, but I personally like your more comical drawings, especially the one that looks kinda like cyborg on mortal combat (referring to the wires as hair sort of thing) Rock on ^_~
