    Alice the 2nd...

Everything's painted and done, but the colors on this aren't working for me. All the elements are saved on separate layers so anything and everything can still be adjusted. And crits would be most highly appreciated

    Any thoughts, oh wise ones?

Originally, it was more traditionally colored (green grass, etc...) but then I adjusted it into weirdness....

Sorry if this sounds like an asspat, but I don't see anything wrong with the pic, and think it's beautiful. Really like the cooler colors on the top part and how they stand apart from the red tones of the girl and gryphon.

Awsome pic man. If I 'd have to be anal, then I'd say that maybe u should make a decision if you want this to be a cool or a warm picture. Im am reffering to the picture being cool at the top half, and warm at the bottom half.
    Does that make sense?
Still - I really like it

Absolutly beautiful, really glad you coloured this one too

The only thing bugging me is the beasts leg is the same colour as her dress, it just stands out a little much.

    Nice job.

that tangency where the two wings meet is distracting, pulling the eye away from the focal point of your image... I really dig it otherwise!

I love it. I agree with cannibalcandy, the wings bug me. Also, you might add more trees going further back in the background. Other than that I love it. The colors are great! Please, don't change the colors.

I'll have to add to the ass patting...it's really elegant and tasteful. I'm sure you know these guys - but if you don't - Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham. 2 of the best illustrators that ever lived...you remind me a bit of them.
    cheers!

really beautiful. if you want something to change, maybe a little more gradiation from light to dark on the wings to denote curve would be in order. otherwise they are admittedly a little flat. do you have any more in this style? oh and could you post the original lines, just out of curiosity?

Certainly beautiful, but perhaps darken and desaturate the beast as you get further away, closer to the butt. Not a lot, just enough to help push that butt back there.

Extremely beautiful! The tips of the wings are a bit disturbing and the color of the beasts birdlegs being the same color as the girls dress is also a bit distracting but all this has already been mentioned. Donīt change anything else.

Hey, thanks for all the crits

So the overwhelming opinion seems to be "Don't change the colors!" Okay, I'll leave them basically the same. As for the other things:

wing tips: I don't think I can change that at this point (contest ends tomorrow ) so they'll just have to stay the way they are. Although, they do bug me as well...

I agree the gryphon is flat-looking. I'll try to add some dimension to him - good suggestions for that. Thanks! Also, I'll tone down that leg a bit. It looks more blue now than it did yesterday.

    Thanks all! It really helps.

It's a great illustration Bluefoooted and it's strong as it is.

Only two areas I noticed that could be tweaked...the bright colored front foot of the creature seems out of place, and maybe if the feather color was slightly different from the fur of the creature. But these are small things, and more opinion that anything else. :-p

Went and made some hasty changes... and it's done! Thank goodness! Did what I said I was going to do, plus: added some highlights to some feathers, and a pattern on the wings. Also, I tweaked the color slightly.

    and some details:

Thanks again - and wish me luck

As far as colors go, maybe you should change alice's hair.. so its not the same as the gryphon (is not all that confusing, but its a detail). And if you're not happy with it.. you can always flatten the image and color balance! ...To me it looks quite good.
However I have another kind of critique, I came to the conclusion that what bugs me is/are the shadows below them, I think they are not strong enough and make the chars......float?, so I would say make it a bit dark and not necesarilly so blurry.
And another thing which is.. well, another detail, is the texture you used for the gryphon, it has no shape.. it looks like one flat sheet of texture pasted over him and set to overlay mode, ...and if thats more or less exactly the case, is not bad.. just make the texture shape around his body (that one was hard to explain)
All in all I love this picture... it reminds me of Rebecca guay, if you dont know her look her up, you'd like her.

Really diggin this pic...Agree with Auramante on the shadows...I posted on the original thread something about the bluriness of the shadows making your objects "float"...Although I would have preferred a "cooler" set of colors, the "warmth" of these give it more passion...

All in all, masterfully done...The rest are minor (personal) quibbles...

i really like it. Colors look fine to me. Just fix your shadows to really ground your characters and it will be rock solid.

That's very beautiful. The style reminds me of one story book I used to read as a kid.

    This is an awesome image.

Personal crit: The second version is where my beef is... In the first version, the redness of the image contrasts better against the background. Also it gives me a feeling of tension and uneasyness in the forest. The second version is more orange than red and it feels like it lightened up the feeling a bit. The mood is much more tame and still to me.

Of course this is how my mind internalizes these colors but hey, I thought I'd give you my opinion.

    Good luck!

Leave it as it is now, it's quite aesthetically pleasing. Very well done.
