Bloodsbane's Sketchbook - 2011-07-01 - lifedrawings
Edit: To save on both your and my bandwidth, I'm changing lots of the pics to links instead, saving those that have been commented or I find otherwise worthy of pimpage.
A chronological journey of sorts.. let's start out with the train/plane doodles on the way there:
Just meeting everyone at the sickle and seeing everyone work was such a total eye-opener and inspiration. I knew from that moment the weekend would be kick-ass
These were done the night before the workshop:
Some life drawings from the first day:
(left part of the bottom one above is Andrew telling me to simplify the shapes to get more convincing forms)
First day's assignment, the Degenesis character. The last one is what I turned in, didn't even get a comment during the judging
On our way to the Roxxy on the 2nd day, we saw a fresh bullethole at around knee height in a store window. I'm convinced this is what happened.
Chronological gap here, since my other sketchbook is in school atm. These started off from life, but were kind of improvised. Lizard from the Sickle, and stuff from a parkbench in the jewish quarters.
Airport, plane and train doodles from the way home:
(turbulence and inking is a bad combination)
And lastly, this one is from last night. First pic I spent some time on since the Workshop:
Edit: trying to get a thumbnail thing going.. bear with me.

Great, great sketchbook, you are very talented one. Keep updating, give us some 'fresh meat' Greetingz.

Miau - Yup, it's the character of the week. I really ought to be doing the enviro of the week instead tho, since that's main weakest point!
Madplanet - Thanks man! I'm trying to move away from the messy scribbly sketchy style, it's all I've known how to do before really. More confident lines in the future, or that's the plan at least
Johnny - My man. I've got a bunch more gesture drawings, but most of em are in the little square black sketchbook, and I don't have that here right now. Will scan some from that as well the coming week. I agree I really need to spend some more time refining my crap to move forward.
Saise - You'll see lots more stuff from me, that much I can promise. The dawn of a new age is here.
Flaskpost - You might actually have fit in my bag on the way there, but I bought so much art supplies I'd have to dump you at customs on the way home
Brukade teckna på konstskolan förr, men numera bor jag i Falun. Är det fortfarande måndagkvällar de kör på btw?
Just because you guys are so cute, you get some old 3D stuff. These are about 9 months old:
This one slightly newer, like 6 months
My latest 3D stuff is under NDA, so you'll have to get me drunk to see that 8)

Hey Fred, it was nice to have you as a roommate .
Nice sketches you got there, from looking at them I'd say you might want to tone down the sketchiness a bit (confident lines! ), study some more anatomy as well (the right foot of the ch.o.w feels kinda off).

Finally got some alone time with the wacom. Just started doodling around, laying down some cold colours and was gonna add a warm secondary light, but when PS crashed I took the hint and called this one done. 40K fan art, to make a friend happy
Edit: More colour doodling. I know I really should spend my time polishing my anatomy and rendering, but I just had so much fun! It's really quite monochromatic considering I'm trying to put all that colour theory to use before it seeps out of my brain. Whatever

Nice stuff! I'm diggin' on this one!! ---> http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y28...KSN_Rheesa.jpg
One thing to watch out for is the centerlines in your bodies.. lot of 'em look like they're about to fall over, or at least aren't very balanced.
Keep 'em coming!

Love your chow entry and the color! Keep drawing much, try to work on your anatomy a bit and go for more confident lines (*points at herself, too*)
keep the good work!

Fat Kid - Thanks man! There must have been a mistake tho.. I'm just a n00b trying to get my grips, it's you guys that represent the quality around here!
Nike - Hey hey
I guess I should put everything else away for a while and just do a ton of anatomy studies.. but Im having lots of fun trying to work on my anatomy, proportions, composition, perspective and colours all at the same time, just trying to be more conscious about the choices I make while drawing/painting. It's so much fun doing lots of mistakes, you get so much to learn from
Johnny - Yeah, Im thinking about giving both him and the robot some more love, but right now Im so sick I spend most of my time in bed with George R R Martin and my sketchbook.
Took the time to digitalize more of the Prague stuff today tho, Supreme Dumpage!

great sketches man! I would like to see some more controlled/finished stuff from you though. Keep it up!!

Aw man, how'd that happen? Time just flew by, and this place went sadly un-updated for waay too long.. here's some candy for you now though! Good sketch thread, daddy loves you!
Peter - Thanks! The first dude is gonna get an update one of these days.. kind of a 'what power armour would look like if I worked on Fallout 3' kinds of things. Yep, the animal name is what the sign at the museum said.. what does it mean?
Blahm - Some more finished graphite stuff coming right up! Thanks for liking my stuff too
First off, some gesture drawings.. the numbers are length of pose in minutes. Tria marker and ink pen was loads of fun for figure drawing.. just keep a slaskpapper between your sheets to limit the bleeding between poses!
Cmon man, let's see a little more confidence in those lines
better.. still losing it on those arms and legs though
Alright, cookie for you!
Gone back to basics, studying Loomis, trying to drum some basic proportions and anatomy into this rebellious brainthing. Gestural thumbnails are fun!
Muscle studies are actually pretty fun once you get into it too. One of my first pages, mostly just copying Loomis straight out
Been drawing alot of portraits too, sometimes drunk sometimes sober.. 2 classmates in school:
hungover friend on train and me in mirror:
Doodles.. the circular self portrait was an avatar idea.. kind of ripped from Poop though. The vampire porn is a still frame from Masters of Horror 3.

This is some nice stuff here.
The good: Readable forms, Good economy of lines, Good grasp of lighting.
What you should work on: Some of these are a little too sketchy, but then again...they're sketches. I'd like to see some more finished ones. Also, some more contrast would be nice. Specifically some dark-darks, where necessary.
Either way, you're very much on the right track. I'm gonna be keeping an eye out for more of your stuff.
Keep it up

Miau - Cheers man. My life drawing and straight copying of reference has come a long way.. constructing stuff on my own seems to progress slower tho. And you're damn right it's your turn to update your sketchbook now
Paul - Thanks for the crit! My rendering skills have been quite pathetic up until very recently. Expect to see more finished graphite stuff shortly.
Bonus speedpaint from a while back that I somehow forgot to post:

I am just too nice.. Day before christmas, and 2 hours before I head out for night shift work, and a mate asks for a mmorpg character signature pic. How could I say no when he wanted an Elven Paladin Pirate though.. but I still take comfort in that the hat is on way too high and the armour is crooked.. serves him right for springing it on me like that

30 more minutes of straightening this out would take it far, but this is what I have so far. 2hr OC session with Miau, mostly playing around with crazy colours to see if I could get something a little livelier than I usually put forth. After having shortened the legs like 20%, if I just biggerize and rotate that forearm and hand, I might actually have some nice proportions and anatomy going here too. A little more love, then this guy might be headed to the comments & critique forum!

A few more RPG characters.. on the last one (to the right) I actually bothered to remove some of the sketch lines. I fee dangerous tendencies of discarding my work once the idea is down on the paper. Need to stick in there and finish some crap once in a while too.
Flaskpost - Thanks man! Sitter arbetslös hemma i Gävle nu, jobbar på portfolio och bråkar med a-kassan.
Fooxoo - Thanks! Hopefully there should be some advancement in the pen stroke department visible though? I feel like I've become better at slowing down and giving stuff the time it deserves lately.
OleOlsen - Cheers!
Calle - Tackar.. som sagt har jag försvunnit iväg till Gävle igen nu. Ska du också till Montreal? Jag är 24.
