Great art man, I love it.
Nice rendering, and I appreciate the ideas/imagery behind your paintings. It's always nice to find other people whose art and reasons/inspirations for it are the same(ish) as my own.
I really like the crow, and the last few pieces you've done as well.

I'm still trying to get to the point where I can render on canvas what I actually see in my head/dreams/hallucinations. As it is, I end up simplifying the hell out of it, and it ends up looking flat, lifeless...nothing like what it is in my imagination...onwards.

Thanks man! I know what you mean about finding other people with the same/similar vision or at least path. It's affirming. Glad ya like the stuff too...it's always in flux. I've actually been writing more music lately and gave the painting in my free time a bit of a break, but I started missing it pretty badly and started to doubt myself again. So I dove back in this evening and this is the fellow that I met.

Lots of great nightmare imagery here. How is the Coldness going? That one really draws me in.

I really like the dam as well but it looks a little bit off in the center...like the central portion isn't quite matching the perspective of the end bits. Still, dam good for a doodle

Thanks guys, it's nice to see that occasionally people do stumble through my little corner of CA.

Max Yeah, it's funny about the "nightmare" imagery. I've always had a dark streak in my imagination and pretty messed up, or atleast really wild dreams for as long as I can remember. Some of this stuff is directly applying some of those images, some of it is more a result of the working process. It's interesting that you keyed into the Coldness...honestly I had to go back through the sketchbook just to remember what piece that was. Now that you've brought it back to my attention I may give it some love. and yeah good eye on that Dam-Village piece, it was just a lunchtime doodle so I didn't really take the time to figure out the perspective like I should have. I was mostly concerned with the verticality of it.

Kurjuus Glad you see that man. That's something I've always kind of sought to do. Admittedly both my design and illustrative skills have a long way to go, but it's always been my intention to make that kind of art. I like the idea of blending things like thoughts, emotions, electro-chemical body signals, different levels of energy and organization, with more traditional subject matter like portraits and "real world" kind of stuff. Obviously I also still love the random creature or landscape, but ultimately I kind of consider that stuff study or practice toward the more layered stuff. Does that make sense?

Artastic Thanks man! That's a huge compliment to know that my art is motivating someone I need to remember that when I'm feeling lazy.

Some more face practice from lunch. I don't want to jump the gun, but i do feel like my structural understanding of women's faces is getting better. The eyes are pretty cartoonish I know...they were actually copied (just the eye shapes)...LOOSELY from some thumbnail sketches out of The Skillful Huntsman. I was kind of looking for the basic visual iconography of a female face, what made it seem pretty, how to control the expression, etc. It's interesting how much you can get out of so little, in terms of marks. The rendered faces are completely from imagination, and were more or less just form rendering practice.

Uugh, after talking to the student loan people about the astronomical amount I owe them and being told they weren't going to work with me regarding a luxury car sized monthly payment...I just wanted to paint something for fun, and without listening to the annoying voice that shits on everything. I think I'll be doing more of that from now on.

Today's lunch paint. Was feeling landscapy today. Trying to apply some of the form rendering knowledge to the landscape. I think I scaled the contrast back too quickly in the midground though.

Jagmed: Thanks man...actually I should really do more of that. I need to start hitting up the weekly life drawing sessions they have at this local gallery/art education center.

Painted this one over two evenings. I've done these sort of psychedelic, peter maxish assemblages of forms for a while, but always as line drawings. Whenever I tried to give them any form....it never quite worked out. However I think that owed more to me not knowing enough about how to render form than any intrinsic quality the art had. So this is the first piece where I feel like I've had some success bringing one of these graphic line doodles into something with more form and presence, I certainly owe alot to Mars-1 for guiding the way with his art. Anyway here's the line drawing, and the eventual painting.

Orbital disaster. Painted Saturday morning, kind of playing about with process. I think I'm probably going to do more like this. I really enjoyed the process. I've been looking at alot of John Berkey lately as well (of course that's pretty much always )

Shardana: Thanks. I like trying lots of different things, concept art oriented stuff, studies, bizarro dream stuff...keeps me and my add interested.

Monotony: Yeah, that's probably one of the more "personal" pieces I've done lately, in terms of approaching what I consider to be "me" in my artwork. Digging through all the influences, good and bad, trying to find my own voice. Thanks for swinging by!

Wassermelone pointed out some issues, and made me realize I just wasn't trying very hard to make the image interesting. So I worked a bit on it today trying to fix that. I still think it needs more "happening" so it's not just an empty stage.

Today's lunch paint, from reference. I decided while working on the last piece I needed to do a lot more studying so I snagged a ton of rock formation pics of the net and will be doing studies of them for a bit I think.
