    Figure Drawing

Hi everyone, my names Cole and I'm 19 years old. Just finished my first 2 semesters in art school. Here are a few of my figure drawings from class recently. They range from 2minute gestures, 4min-5min torso's, 5min figures, then get longer up to 60-70minutes.

Somehow I've managed to not find this thread before today. I'm a tool! Great variety of techniques and styles. I've started attending life drawing sessions and I've been using a little mechanical pencil so far for convenience, but after checking out this thread I think it's time for me to get some charcoal or pastel action going! (Please give me a shout if the 6 images below don't show up for anyone. I IMG- linked them from my sketchbook instead of uploading them again. Thanks!)

Here are the my latest life drawings.

I feel like I am getting better at economy of strokes, especially in the shorter poses.

It comes from getting quicker at identifying shapes more accurately.

It's fun when your strokes do what you want them to do.

You can do more with one stroke than you were able to before.

It translates from painting to drawing and vice versa.

I've been going out to paint a lot lately, and it feels like each one sharpens the other.

I am simplifying things better in all aspects of my art.

Thanks Main Loop, I really like the sense of light you achieve with directness of your shading and you do a great job of keeping the energy throughout the pose.

Hi folks. Here are my first life drawing sessions ever from last year. I was also very new to charcoal, which was very interesting

Mainly for folds: (~2-4 min poses)

    Anatomy etc:

Unfortunately we couldnt find a female model, and there won't be any life drawing next term anymore. I'd love to do more though - do most of you do these at school or do you also go to like art groups/specific places for life drawing? I can't seem to find much in my area.

Nice work @highelf! I'm in London and go to a drop in evening class if that helps, there's no tutor so its quite cheap. Might be something similar in your area?

I guess I should post a few studies of my studies here since I don't have a SB. The first two are from last year and the one at the bottom is from last week. There are obvious issues with proportion, but hopefully with more practice I will get better!

    Inspiration from this thread

    Gentlefolks:

I found ConceptArts via a Google search (Google knows all!) for male figure models, and this thread convinced me that the site is a must-join. As a result of it, I have made two decisions.

    1. I will take my drawing paraphernalia out of cold storage after a 45-year hiatus.

    2. I will take more seriously the proddings from several life models on two other sites to consider offering this time-worn corpus undelectable to the creators of art as a challenge to their skills at making silk purses out of sow's ears.

What is inspiring about this thread is the notable minority status of Barbies and Kens, of beach bunnies and iron-pumpers. The models are generally real folks with lived-in bodies rather than hot 20-somethings. That is inspiring, especially given what I've found on Google, where in most cases youth rules and imperfect people need not apply.

Oddly enough, here in the Berkshires of MA, an area that proclaims itself to be an art mecca, there are AFAIK only two weekly figure-drawing sessions, one an instructed class with clothed models, and the other a Monday evening open studio with nudes.

So, it's off to the evening session with sketchbook and weapons in hand to shake off the dust and rust, and see if I can create something worthy to be posted amongst all the fine artworks here.

And, I'll go with the intent to study the evening's activities to determine if those guys in point #2 are right.

    Peace and blessings, all!

I come back to drawing sessions.

65*50cm, 20 minutes.... i don't like the texture on the paper, i think it comes from the board on the whitch one i draw.
