    pixel art

I'm jw if anyone here has ever attempted to do pixel art and what they found out about it, what types of shadings work best, if u feel that patterns included in the shading make the picture look better based on ur opinion and if it's worth all of the work to make a picture 1 piece at a time.

    Does sprites and smilies count?
Other than that, I've tried making some buildings and terrain for an amateural game.
I liked pixeling the whole thing. Using the patterns just looked crappy. Unless you mean in a different way then I think.

I haven't done anything insometrical yet though.

lady, sprites and smilies do count, although they can be very simple, minimalistic pictures they do count. Smilies are pretty fun though, especially once you make a great one and then u truly feel accomplished. So you made some buildings and terrain for an amateural game? That's pretty cool, what type of terrain did u do?

Also for patterns, I mean with shading. Some people just put pixels and then more pixels in a straight line while others make small circles with their pixels and then blend the colors using those in various sizes and such. I saw a picture that used it once, I'll try to get it up for u if I can. Would u mind posting some of ur pixel works?

Amateural as in nobody in the world knows about it ^^, not that cool...
I've made a "viking set" (snow, grass, water, hill and forest).

I used one line pattern for metal or smooth/slippery textures, and more dot-like for non-smooth/slippery.

If I can find some I will.
You can see my smilies here though

and to madster, I apologize, I didn't search for pixel art or pixel pushing in the forums section.

Here's an example of a pattern in shading. Now, if u look at the two bottum sides of the go board there is a slight pattern there that helps blend the shading together, in this one I used circles and semicirlces.

That. IMO, looks ugly. THe pattern I mean. I do pixel work occasionally and I say dithering is the way to go. It's easy not to get confused or anything. That looks more like a wrapped box, more than a pattern anyways.

And anyone who hasn't heard of DA is probably lucky. That place is an asspat-o-torium. You hardly ever get good crits, if any.

Pixeldragon, It does look like a foiled box doesn't it? And I guess it would be easier not to get confused, hmmm... Maybe I'll just use it for larger, more bland objects like a nighttime sky for stars and such.
