Yet Another Wacom ?uestion...about pen
Alright, I KNOW! There have been 3,349 questions about this lately. I used the search and couldn't find anything about specific Wacom pens. Here's my situation: I bought a tablet off ebay yesterday for $26, yes $26 (one day auction, I guess it was stolen). Anyhoo, it's an Intuos 1 and it doesn't have a pen or mouse. My question is which pen would be the best to get? Now that I've saved a good bit of money I can afford a slightly better one. If anyone can give me some advice I'd really appreciate it. Also, should I get a mouse?Any websites would be greatly appreciated, too.

That is what you want.

Thanks MoP. Can anyone tell me if it's worth getting the mouse? I'd rather not get one if it's not that useful of a tool

Honestly, you don't really need a mouse. I use my pen for everything. Once you get used to it it's ten times better than a mouse anyway. That, and it doesn't cramp your hand like a mouse does.
Hope this helps,

I wouldn't bother with the mouse either, mine has sat unused in my desk drawer since January..

Also wanted to toss in that even though I have a wacom mouse, i stick with my regular optical. The wacom mouse feel 'funky' compared to the optical and i just figured in the end it wasn't necessary. If you dont end up whoring the pen 100% of the time, use a normal mouse.

I really really appreciate all the feedback, especially since everyone has been complaining about all the WACOM questions lately. I can't wait to get it!

SPend the extra dollars to get the AIRBRUSH pen.
The grip is better for your hand, and the airbrush wheel gives you lots more control as you draw...

Also, look at the plastic overlay when you get your tablet.
You should probably replace it and order 5 extra stylus tips when you buy the AIRBRUSH pen...
I have two mouses and two pens that I seldom use, because I bought the airbrush for my Intuos and my Intous 2, and they're all I use. I only use the regular stylus when I've misplaced the airbrush...

Hey, thanks for the advice madster. Would it be better than the 6D Pen? I am completely in the dark on this. If the airbrush is the best and has the best options, I'll definitely get it. $90 isn't too bad.

Hayeske, I've been reading bad things about the 6D pen. IMO, it's too new technology, and you will have to wait a version or two before it works like it should.
Check out the Painter section here at CA, there are a couple of threads about it.
I really, REALLY think you will love the airbrush. You have a button and a wheel, and can adjust your brushes in Painter to have different aspects of your brush strokes respond to pressure, wheel, tilt, etc., so you will be quite happy with it, I promise.
Don't forget to buy a new overlay, too. People tend to abuse the hell out of them. I wax mine once a week, and haven't replaced a tip in over a year, and am still running my original overlay on my Intous 1, five years later...Some people insist on drawing with a piece of paper on their tablets for the textural "drag," but I polish and wax mine, so that the stylus glides across like you are drawing on air. The instant I feel the least bit of drag, I buff it or re-wax it...It's like moving your hand and having the strokes appear on your screen. That's a feeling of freedom a lot of people are unused to, and a major difference in my mind, in learning Digital over Traditional. That's why I try to make it as smooth as possible to draw.
Enjoy your wacom. Draw lots, and start a Sketchbook thread here!

Thanks for the tips Madster. I'm gonna buy the pen and nibs from the wacom website. They don't have any transparent overlays in stock. What do you wax your board with? Mr. Zog's Sex Wax? j/k
