More Sporadic Bigger Events and Outings
These used to be more or less monthly; nowadays they're somewhat sporadic. if you have an idea for something, definitely mention it in the thread. Once we determine a basic plan i will send it out to the CATL-List (e-mail). In the past we've drawn at museums, the zoo, parks, the airport, filled entire sketchbooks in 24 hours, partied and sketched on rooftops, and celebrated fictitious holidays, etc. These don't come around very often so it's definitely a great opportunity to make art happen with a very fun group. highly reccomended.
and least importantly, here's the old message... not so correct anymore, but here for posterity's sake or something...
>I'm currently transplanted in roswell, Ga.... but would be willing to travel a bit to meet up with >some group of art fiends. repost here or pm me anytime. If you pm i can hook you up with my cell # and we can chat rather than send >50x email messages.
>I'm most interested in getting together for some observational drawing challenges, possibly plein air drawing or eventually going in on hiring a model if a >following develops. critiques, sketchbook sharing, etc, would be great as well. i'm looking for probably 2.5 - 4 hours minimum, possibly more to make >it worth the travel time. Starting out i would be av. for weekends, but possibly a well coordinated week night would be an option.
past thread titles:
Atlanta///CATL Sketch Group///CATL-MINI this tuesday!!!
I've just moved to Marietta from San Francisco a week ago. I'm not sure how far Roswell is from here, but I'm hoping to meet up with fellow artist while I'm here. Let me know the best way to contact you and hopefully we can meet or start up a sketch group.
I went last wednesday (november 16) and really enjoyed it. the setup was very nice and cozy--reminded me of the eclectic drawing studios from art school. All the folks there were super nice........i've definitely been to some other sessions where you feel tremendously guilty for, uh, erasing on your paper too noisily or something.
Would still be interested in getting together with some conceptart minded folks for some "sketchjamb"s or to just drink rockstar and crit each other's sketchbooks. messsage me folks and i'lll send ya my cele tele

I saw the post for the North Carolina crew, so I knew that there had to be something going on for Atlanta...Lo and behold, I found it...
I'm in Dunwoody. At least that's what my mailing address says. It feels more like Roswell/Alpharetta. I'm glad to see some action here and in the CATL thread. I'm going to have to fire up the scanner and start representing for the ATL.
Greetings, all. I'm in North Carolina now, but I grew up in roswell. I started the North Carolina thread and I'm not getting a huge response from that. I visit the fam a couple of times a year, so I might be able to hook up with you guys. Let me know if you will accept a transplant.
hey grendel grack, we'llllll welcome you into the precious fold with outstretched tentacles and gifts of notebook paper. pm me when you are going to be heading down to THA ROZZZZZZY and we'll get it together with the CATL
Excellent. I accept your notebook paper and tentacles and will extend my comeraderie in return, along with fresh belly button lint and dried snake's skin. While I won't be able to visit in person very often, I can always shout advice and witty quips form the digital astral plane. This will have to sustain you for now.

Next saturday is earthday... any of yall down for getting together
for some nice sketching together time??? What else are you going to be
I'd personally like to do some early afternoon UNTIL style throwdowns
if anyone is down for hanging like that... kicking out the art for 5
or 6 hours. As far as locations are concerned, perhaps sunniness
would be conducive to knocking around in piedmont park somewhere maybe
under the large trees closer to piedmont road / 14th street. any
other ideas are welcome, shoot em my way in the event of crummy
weather we'll need to figure something else out of course.
Let me know via email and i can start tallying up the numbers and
buttoning down the cross hatches. Can't wait to do some drawrings
pm me and i'll add you to the email list... also would love to add more folks too

Awwww, I already feel left out. Even the folks in my state are too far away to get together. Damn middle of nowhere east bumble fuck! Oh well, I'll get some sketches together and see what you guys think.
i just pm'ed you, guggenmaneuver to give you my email. sounds like you guys are having some fun with the ol' sketchbooks. Also sounds like most of you are on the north side of the ATL? I'm over here in Alpharetta/Roswell. Did I read right that you guys went to the airport? Yeowch, what a drive!

There's a Don Pablo's right near Cumberland Mall (near I-75&I-285 on the north side of the ATL). I've been know to haunt that on occasion. There's also a big Border's right next door for coffee and plenty of tables to hold you upright after too many margaritas.
Just a suggestion if you want to stick with the de-sketch-o motif.
EMAIL transcript: hit me up with a PM and i'll add you or send more information!
>(wish i could claim that jaw-dropping subject-headline---> thanks wes!)
>oK====> next friday is cinqo de mayo 5 may: What better way to
>celebrate Mexican independence than with the CATL sketchgroup!?!
>Anyone down for tacos, graphite, 70lb paper, guacamole???
>As regards locations, the exact whereabouts have yet to be determined,
>but preferrably authentic, cheap, and spacious somewhere in north of
>the perimeter metro Atlanta, to the tune of Marietta - Alpharetta???
>Please send some suggestions as I'm unsure of a good place to go to.
>At this point we're planning on getting together around 7pm, though
>personally i may not be able to show until 8pm that evening because of
>After the restaurant we can continue the drawering festivities at my
>apartment in Roswell (address below) if anyone is down for a prolonged
>questions? ideas? suggestions?
>I hope everyone can make it out for CATL sketchgroup meeting #3!
Yeah, believe me, it being within spitting distance of Border's is really helpful. The Java Juice helps sober you up a bit so you can pick the right end of your pencil to draw with.
The menu prices are around $8-$14 depending on what you want. The margaritas are freakin huge.
You know, with it being Cinco-de-Mayo and all (the poor saps won't even know it's Cinco de Sketch-o, too), we might even be well advised to try and make a reservation. How many people are we going to have?
Sent you an email last night: besides yourself, nofingers / trevor, and myself possibly seansea as well. Will probably be monday or so until the yae's or nae's start rolling in... last CATL meeting there were 5 people, but 2-3 had to bail last minute because of other plans ... both meetings thus far have been very well and enthusiastically attended. reservations? it's going to be difficult to tell the # of people we're going to have until probably middle next week--we should know by that point. we may have to wait a while to get a table, but that's more drawing time really.
When someone emails me i'm going to refer them here to get in on the discussion.
EDIT: also my cell number is in the signature of my email if we need to discuss this over the tele

once it creeps up on mon. or tues. of next week, we can get a preliminary headcount and I'll give them a call to see if they take reservations. I kinda doubt it, but like you said, we can draw from the bar if we need to.
