    idea development

http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=170645 is the idea development class this weekend with Massive Black and The Illustration Academy. I hope you guys can make it. CA needs the support.

Speaking of ideas...every once in a while I get lucky to show sneak peeks of very important projects we work on. We have been doing work for a company called Emotiv who is developing technology which helps people control video games with their minds and facial expressions. While it is early in this new technology's development they have found some incredible functions like parapalegics being able to steer wheel chairs with a wink and a smile, giving movement and activity in the world where there was none. These concepts are for the game side but when it comes to great ideas, Emotiv has a bunch. They are working on the future...and will have impact in ways we do not expect. Creative people...gotta love them. www.emotiv.com is their link.

    Stunning piece, Chan.
I wish I could see them all taken to finish, especially that middle design.
    Very inspirational.

    Transformers 2

if you pick up the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Special Edition 2 dvd set, you are going to see a whole bunch of concept art that we did for that film. Our function is to do the very first vision pass on a lot of this stuff, including key shots, and so it changes after we are done and it goes into production. Sometimes it makes it all the way down the line, like with Ravage, and others it becomes something else entirely. Here is a taste:

    More to come...

Doesn't matter. At that point in concept art, your main goal is to make the image readable.

But it's the upper back left.

    hi guys!

here are some other concepts we did that you can see featured in the extras on the dvd!

these first few are mine and then the last two are by Kemp (mr. Steaktron)
and that last post by manley has Nox's take on Jetfire and then a fairly quick scene mockup i did of Soundwave messing up the city.

    more to come!

That Devastator design is pretty awesome. It's interesting to note that the design process was incorporating the idea of multicolored vehicles as far back as the early rough stages. I've always thought that was a good idea to help distinguish the individual vehicles in the final combined form, especially given the sometimes confusing complexity of the movie designs.

I'm looking forward to seeing more.

I agree with you Ghost Robot, the idea behind Devastator is very clever. And all those mechanics combined organic. There is no mess in construction and I just spent a couple of minutes to explore how the parts of each vehicle combined and attached. Other concepts are awesome too.

Aaaaah, these are amazing!! Wes, I especially enjoy seeing how you chopped up the Corvette to determine the resulting armor shapes on the Transformer. Awesome stuff, MB!!!!!

I liked how you guys did Soundwave and how originally wanted to keep his shoulder battery. Devastator resembled his original counterpart minus the front-end loader and cement mixer.
