Icon HiGHWaY RoBBERY!? duddlebug vs. Poshspice

There's nothing like piling your plate up with too many things to do. And my girlfriend has always said that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Well... until recently... There's not a lot of things bigger than my stomach nowadays...

    So i need a workout.

Poshspice gave me a lift to work this morning through a cold and misty morning across the hills to Derby. And as is often the case with Aly, the conversation turned to 'ladies'. And amidst the mist and spooky greyness the conversation turned to 'The Highwayman', a fantastic poem by Alfred Noyes. And we wondered what it would have been like with a 'Highwaywoman'. Which got me thinking...

What better workout could i ask for than challenging Poshspice (you Cad! You Mongrel!! GRRrR!) to a digital painting of 'The Highwaywoman'...?

    Yup... y'all heard right.

I'm challenging Poshspice to a girl drawing!!

    Blimey.

And in case he can't wind his cobwebbed clockwork brain into any kind of imaginitive state, here's a few verses (with apologies to Alfred Noyes) with the "he's" changed to "she's":

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor,
And the highwaywoman came riding- riding-riding-
The highwaywoman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

She'd a French cocked-hat on her forehead, a bunch of lace at her chin,
    A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin;
They fitted with never a wrinkle: her boots were up to the thigh!
And she rode with a jewelled twinkle,
    Her pistol butts a-twinkle,
Her rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.

There's a lot more. I'll post some more later, perhaps. But that sets the scene for now.

And if Poshspice accepts, i was thinking of a December 24th deadline. It's a long way away, but i know how busy he is with Thunderdomes, CGtalk challenges, the day job and personal work. And he works so incredibly slowly... mind numbingly slowly... like a snail with a toothbrush trying to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel... honestly... you wouldn't believe it unless you saw it with your own eyes... pixel by pixel... layer upon layer upon layer... tweak this... tweak that... yaddayaddayadda...

    yawn...

    oh sorry, i fell asleep....

C'mon Poshspice! Come and give me a good spanking!!

Good luck cuddley'mug, careful with that cRazY use of capitalisation.
You guys at Eurocom seem to suffer from RSI = repetitive strange injury.
Can't wait too see this... oh wait, i'll have too.
Go on you northern stella drinking, ferret racing, sugared almond tasting fools.
Wow i'm talking complete and utter...

Actually, i think our noses might bump together first. Aly's got very long toes, but his nose is almost as long as mine.

Yes... he does suffer from that.

But that's nothing compared to Mr.Dixon's wind.

And Stella's a poncy southern drink. REal men drink Ale in these 'ere parts. In chunky sweaters. Comparing clogs.

    Like...uh!

Weeeelll... the gauntlet has been well and truly laid, and right at my feet!

Those are mighty strong words big fellah! Mighty strong words indeed... you doin' a whole lot of talkin', and all I'm hearin' is a whole lot of hot air blowin' around here... you care to put your Wacom pen where your mouth is? Huh! You care to come down off that lofty perch and show me WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF! Eh! Eh... er.... EH... Words are like old dry pieces of Blu Tak... they don't stick around long... so lets see you start cleanin' up them little blue blobs into a big pretty picture...

Draw a Highway Woman...! Leather.... thigh boots... corsetry... Naah! Not up my street at ALL! Is the bear Catholic..? Does a Pope shit in the woods...? I accept your challenge BuddleDug, you purveyor of all things cute... (and actually your girlies are extremely yummy! Dark eyed sultry vixens, heavy black hair cascading in silken tresses over porcelain shoulders... er....)

I feel it would be contrary of me to to not offer you satisfaction. Nay! I demand satisfaction! You sir shall eat grass at dawn, and who shall be your second? (No, 'Whos' on first...)

So.... Decemer the 24th eh... Prelimary sketches and ideas as soon as we do 'em? Or do we closely guard our creations, ever watchful, ever distrustful...

Oh yeah! And another thing you... you.... you.... fiend! SLOW!!! ME! Pushing every pixel!! HA!! Layers galore.... HA! What about layer masks you monster! Ha! (Slides off quietly....)

Prepare to dance the rumba of death, the ballet of doom, the cha cha of fate and the tango of destiny.... beast!

Dixons wind... it sounds sort of romantic and storybook... well it AIN'T!

    Hmmmm... i dunno.

i hadn't really thought about that.

Although i did think this would generate some good stuff for my sketchbook, so how about we share some of the preliminary stuff... just to tease each other... but go a bit secretive and guarded with our final pieces...?

Bloody hell. I'm out of the office for one day and look what happens.

I think you should show us all your doings as you go along - I mean, you'll soon run out of banter to fill the thread between now and Chistmas otherwise...

Man strych9ine! You Chicago types are all the same! If I had a dollar for every time I got asked to XXXX a horse on tape while I was there last week...

BTW Posh, way to push yourself... it's nice to see you charge out there and take on something that you don't ususally draw...er....um...yeah.

Can't wait to see your "horse" we all know what happened when you were challenged to draw kitten's!

Four! I'm going to try to get away with just the front of the horse in shot... In fact I could hide one of the legs behind the figure, in which case that's eight weeks for one leg...

And... yeah it's a girl! So what... c'mon 'ave a go if you think you're 'ard enough. This was Duddlybuggles idea anyway (sort of)... and I need to redeem myself after my crap TD entry...

nah... i'm too tired. And i've had a bottle of wine. And a glass of whiskey. And too much mashed potato.

I'll draw when i want to... not when pishspoce asks me too.

    So there!!

Who says my highwaygirl has two legs. She might've had an accident. And her horse might be a bit squiffy too.

I'll do however many legs i deem necessary. And if they take me a week each i don't feel i must apologise to Mr MAtt 'the Wacom WhiRLwinD' Dixon. If he was taking part, i'm sure we'd have a horse who's mother had become a little too friendly with a centipede. If ya know where i'm comin' from.

    BuRp.

OoOoh.. is that the time?? Sorry chaps, it's time to fall asleep on the sofa...

I always thought Dick Turpin was a chick. Nice gams. When you've finished polishing your barm cakes or whatever it is you people do in the workhouse, perhaps we could see your entry duddlebug? Or are you ripped to the tits on Kendal Mint cake?
