Thats beutiful. But please, be original. The X has been done a few other times before.
The image is working now and it is frickin amazing imo. Dynamic fluid pose, gorgeous aquatic coloring and nice take on a merman creature.
Some crits though:
The background doesn't seem quite finished, the brushstrokes are too much present and you could vary the size of th etiny white bubbles.
The light rays are rather strong especially in the upper left corner. If the creature is at surface level I'd like to see some waves breaking or motion in the top.
The yellow dots on it's tail, it doesn't really need them imo.
For those that cannot see the image:

still, o well. Try using Imageshack.us
What every one else said. Good work! The picture lacks in composition, tho. There is no sense of direction; the creature is just struck there in the middle. I guess a background would add a lot to it. Right now it sort of looks like a crop froma bigger image.
The creature is awesome. The background is a little too simple and doesn't really show a sense of water around him, and doesn't have depth. The creature looks like it's moving, maybe adds some current around him to make the movement more apparent.
thanks you guys.
possessed: yeah those weren't intended to be bubbles, more like floating debris lit by the sun but i can see what you mean. yeah i could make it look like you see the underside of the surface if thats what you mean. you dont like the little phosphorescent lights on the tail ok that was my lame attempt to make it cooler. sorry, i bow my head in shame.
maybe i add an abstract composition with strokes? i didnt intend on making more than a character design, but im getting alot of comments saying that i should. thanks alot for the comments and i will make an alternate version.
cool character... nice work. Pose is very nice IMO... nice and weightless
thanks for sharing
I like the creature design. A series, with this creature, might be cool.
Nice job. I think the background is becoming important because the figure is relatively small, so we want that empty space to really be doing something. If you cropped in closer the abstract watery texture thing would probably work better.
Is this based on the merfolk description from the M:TG style guide?

I can see what you're saying with this being just a character design, but if you're going to do a background on a character design, have it say something about the character. We can see that it's water, but where exactly in the water does he live? What climate? Maybe thrown in some rocks or coral or at least other fish?
If you turn it just a bit and play up the light and dark in the background, I think you'll geta little more mood:
I like the picture. The character design is nice as is the colors. I also enjoy the feel and brush strokes in the bkgd. Just a few slight hints of bubbles to show movement and very subtle details to show his surroundings would be perfect. I wouldn't change much of it!

i made some changes based on a few comments you guys had. thanks alot for the feedback. i appreciate it. i decided not to turn him "nonie" just because he felt a little off balance and too dynamic in your picture. i was looking for something a little more calm. anyway let me know what you guys thing and i might end up making a couple small touch ups.
Very well done. Checked your site and I was impressed by how you used Flash! I am working towards an Animation degree and know how much work it must have taken to build your site. Thinking of doing it in Flash but Dreamweaver will save me some time. One thing about your images in your site, they appear to be a tad small, and enlarging them will help them stand out better. Also liked the mouse trails.
this looks great.. the character design is handled very well... your updated version with the background doesnt do it any justice... it just looks like you wanted to put something down in the BG... I would suggest spending more time on the BG... also they all look drak and the same shape... I know could add some color there.... your moving in the right direction.. keep on woring it... thanks for sharing..
BTW- i was trying to navigate on your site and I couldnt find a button to go to the next page.. it may be my computer config.. but, there may be others with the same problem and would be turned away from your nice artwork.. i would look into it..
Mainloop- man i must be dyslexic.. cuz i thought you asked how many people are on lsd
something fishy's going on around here...lol
cool...I like it..

thanks for the comments. yeah my website needs to be updated in size and number of images. there are little circles at the bottom of the images to click (which act as buttons), for those of you who find it hard to navigate. as far as the image goes wanted to keep the BG simple because this was more of a character design for me then a whole painting so im not going to do too much more (and if i do i will post it of course), but thanks for your comments regardless.
Nice piece. i checked out your website, some nice stuff there.
Very nice piece, simply gorgeous. No crits here.
The composition is definitely better in the second pic. I love the transparency of the fins, I feel like you just need a bit of water reflection. Also, those reeds wouldn't really be under water, so you're just making it more confusing. Those are Cattails, and they grow above the water, so now, he's flying. That definitely needs to be fixed. It's coming along beautifully.
Also: the site is gorgeous! Wonderful works, and I'm loving the layout +bookmark
