tullie - thank you. most of these are 10 and 20 minute poses. the 10 min are the ones without a lot of color on them and the 20 min are the ones that are overdone with color.

incolorinred - i've started focusing on hands more than i normally would have. hope it shows

Tiffany - you're just trying to be difficult well, when i finally start taking this book thing seriously and will actually have something to show you can bet i'll be bugging you for your opinion/crits

My internet is down at home so i'm sneaking this update in at work while the boss is out. This is two weeks worth of SoI watercolors.

    Man, these are delicious.
You get so much weight out of such delicate brush strokes, use of colour is fabulous. Put that style into your biro drawings, delicate shaded areas would look humming!!
Love it man. Love your city too.

shit yo, i know it starts to sound like an old record, but the water colours are nice!!. just cant seem to get enough of them. you should do lifesize versions of them with huge brushes!

will cost you a fortune in paints though...

wow man, your watercolors are really freakin sweet. i'd like to see you do a completed portrait of someone instead of the smaller studies.

Arkady, sexy watercolors. The last batch of sketches look burger sauce man, real nice. I actually wanted to start dabbling in them, what was the name of that set you showed me while I was in NY? Do you have a link to anywhere I can order that online?

Last updates are great..but I expect that from you

Arkady - please really think about printing a book. You know I would buy one, and I think a good amount of people would buy it from you right here on CA.org.

I should be seeing you tomorrow - unless something crazy happens (which happens to me quite a bit) - can't wait to see your work hanging on the wall. Cheers!

    fooxoo - Thanks!!!

tensai - ya dude, that's the plan evenually. I know a dude here in NY that sells his huge watercolors for as much as $75,000. and they're not that much better than mine. Still saving up for a Size 50 Kolinski. If you ever come to NY, please get me one of the monster Sumi brushed that are only available in your neck of the woods. I'll totally pay you back.

mitch - all these are 10x15 and up. but i do want to do some self portraits with watercolor.

Rob - now you're talkin, I'm always down for free food. If you would have come up to Tiffany's i would have done a demo for ya.

Cody - Schmincke Watercolors, he're hoping you can make it out in April for Art Out Loud 2. I'll paint with burger sause with ya again.

Scott - great seaing ya man. Thanks for making the treck out to the SoI, and staying to help out. Your support for the book idea got me thinking more about it. it may actually become a reality one of these days.

Tim - you too, thanks for the suppost of the book idea. Hope the Cooper Union stuff comes in the next few days so you could fast track your way back to NY

Nick - when you actually get to the SoI stop by and say hey.

    MrBobMarley - thanks!

here are the ones from last week:

and from the 3on3 on thursday

That fat kid - the portrait will happen eventually. Shiraj (Winjer) is kicking my ass to live on the wild side and experiment outside my comfort zone with different meathods of watercolor aplication and blending. I figured i'd experiment with a free model (myself).

here are some small oils from this weekend Slacker's Painting Party in White Plains. the big piece (the disaster is drying at Tiffany's):

and a small sketch for the big disaster:

You sir IMHO are a highly talented individual! I practice almost every day, I hope some day I'm as good as you!

One mild criticism tho - would it kill ya to put an elf or two in there? I just love elves and i thnki you could really paint some neat looking ones!

    EXCELSIOR!

Arkdaddy- sucks couldn't have made it this weekend. I tried, but failed..like most of my endeavors in life *whaaaaa boo hoo* I heard it was a blast though.

    - Looking at those oils it seems as if you are trying to treat them as watercolors. That's not entirely impossible...if ya wanna go that route. I know I mentioned Bernie Fuchs approach to you Thursday..and I can kinda see that working for you. Most of his paintings are just super thinned out oils (to the consistency of watercolor) on canvas over a solid drawing. Could be something to experiment with. I just think you have a natural tendency to use mediums in a very 'wet' state. I dunno...maybe I'm retarded...?

I'd say more about the life watercolors but folks here are gonna think either
1.) I'm on your payroll or
    2.) I have a crush on you
Not that I don't, but everyone doesn't need to know about it. I'll say it one more time - i love your watercolors!

Medusa is looking sweet. Take your time with that sweetheart. I think I figured out what you are doing with that crazy ghetto light -table. Good luck with that bro. Looking forward to seeing that finished. Oh -did you remember to send stuff to Spectrum?

Scott - i thought i was the king of beating myself up. cut that shit out. we're both gonna make it this year.
I'm still stupified by oils. and the best ones I painted to date were very loose and made with washes and looked like watercolors. plus the ones i posted were very quick ones. the house took under an hour, and the trees were about 20 minutes.

here's a scan of the new Medusa watercolor:

Arkady!!! yeah! this looks awesome, the snakes are great I love it!
I have one suggestion, get rid of the ribbed part of the sketchbook, and add more paper above her head because she looks squashed. You can fix that in Photoshop with your cool new technique.
this is looking great, you turning this in to spectrum? I hope so. Mine is getting there late too, I hope they accept it, :/

Is this beautiful portrait inspired by Medusa Gorgon? Wow, I'm shocked, well that's some thinking out of the box. She is gorgeous. Such a nice feeling of flesh and young body . I would personally stand up for her throwing the national hero Perseus from her . She is a gem.

i know, the desire is too strong. I want to throw in some purples on the left arm becasue right now it's blending in with the background. and i want to add more details to the snakes and blend it better with the rest of the figure (more reds and skin tones) and better define the cloth. It's going out ASAP tomorrow

I could see makeing the snakes RED tongues shoot out and flicker, definitley the one in sillouquette on top of her head, and the arm I like it pushed back. just think about it for a while before you add anything else. I like it now, and some areas aren't defined but that is fine because we already know what they are, so no point in even rendering it(the arm I am talking about). Don't put tooo much red in the snakes, maybe just the tonues all saturated red or something, that will be enough I think. serious this is looking good all those little things are candy and are the hardest to put in. just be frugal with the them.
test where you want to put the color frist I suggest in photoshop so when you go to watercolor you can be confident where the color is going. sorry I'm on your ass about this painting. It is turning out great and I want to see it in Spectrum, so people can see your beautiful watercolors, try not to stress about it , just think about it.

    tiff, i agree.
my only real problem is the green areas of the hair and loin cloth stand out too much from the rest of the piece. there are no greens anywhere else to tie the illustration together. i want to throw in a little of the reds and purples of the skin in the hair just for harmony's sake. I'll throw the new version on the ghetto light table tonight, after the SoI and do a new painting and then combine it with what i already have.

everyone else that replied, thanks. i'll address you all individually once i have something new to post.
