Old stuff is old, new stuff at page 4
here's a sketch with a finished pencil rendering beneath it.
here's the final pencil rendering, although I plan on inking it soon...
sorry for the small scan, I'll try and post a larger version later.
the ground he's standing is very light in this pic, so I need a darker scan also... or that's what ink is for...
more to come, any C&C appreciated

I wont be the first person to say bitchn optimus. Id like to see more, and I know Optimus has anotomy and everything looks pretty good The one thing that is bugging me is the barrel of the gun. Then again I am insane, Bring in more and keep going.
Transformers! more than meets the eyyyyes.
Welcome to CA and to the sketchbook section. Enjoy your stay and keep updating
The proportions on that first sketch are rad by the way.
aesir- thanks dood, I'll try and get a scan of the of a more anatomically correct version soon...
sly- I know the gun barrel is... off, I'll try adjusting it in the inking stages.btw thanks for the compliments.
now for some more TF art-
there is a TF movie in the works and I thought it would be fun to do a *concept* movie version for prime, I plan on having a profile shot, front view, back view... and so on.
a couple of legs, different versions not sides
trying to get back in the groove with a pen and marker quickie:
I am collaborating with someone else on a comic project and this is one of the characters:
he is supposed to transform into the wolf fenrir
this is the same one but with added prismacolor black color pencil:
I'll try and get some still-lifes in here, the only problem is that I draw still-lifes on a much larger piece of paper and scanning that is impractical. I'm sure I can figure something out though.
the optimus line drawing is incredible. your 'studies' are interesting, too, but lacking in authenticity, in my opinion.
once you change to a low-level/detailed view of optimus, you can benefit from knowledge of machinery--hydraulics,engines, for example.
antquin- I can draw that stuff from reference... I just never thought to, thanks for the comment, I'll head over to your sketchbook in a sec...
I've got more coming soon.
Ping, thanks for the sketchbook-post. there isnt much here, still, but you seem to have all the proportions and angles down to be on the right road to good transformer art. the optimus prime, especially, does look very cool, and id love to see it with some color. look forward to seeing what else you have cooking.
Nice work, big transformers fan myself nice to see someone else likes them too, of course I love gen 1 but hey everyone has their flaws, how long does it take you to construct bots so precisely?
Firelode- the optimus took an hour of planning spread over a couple of days, the actual drawing was done maybe in 4-5 hours spread over three days.
the fenrir took maybe two hours, someone else came up with the original design I just drew another version.
that fat kid-thanks for the comments, as for the more drawing, herre you go...
here is a dragon profile that I wanted to use for a comic idea...
this my updated vision of Godzilla
this was for fun, six years ago I fused godzilla and king ghidorah into one creature and I came up with the creature in the bottom of the pic, the fused monster on top was done a week or two ago, to see how my monster drawing sensibilities have changed
Oh NO!!! not a drawing from ref! well here it is. it's a couple of years old, but I didn't want anybody to despair. I'll get on some current life drawings as soon as I get my loomis books in the mail.
EDIT*this is a self-portrait*
and a creature golem thing that got his side and arm ripped/blown off.

While I'm not a fan of transformers, I gotta say your optimus prime looks really cool.
that fat kid- actually I do, but I forgot to scan it, tomorrow I'll get it up here.
thanks for reminding me.
for future reference I can only update in the middle of the week until I get a new computer... which is soon hopefully.
I love this one and the two last mechas. Very kewl! They look realy humongus although it is only on the small format. Great work!
I dont know how to crit because you draw nearly only mechas. Plz show other stuff, even if it is not so good. (only if u want to) But i think you cant progress if you don't draw some realistic stuff.
The last post is a good beginning ;D
I keep an eye on your thread
your transformer sketches are pretty cool! Anybody drawing transformers or mechs with that much amount of detail blows me away! The only crit I would have is that "hydra" mech character....it just seems too...."forced". Maybe if the hydra's themselves are mechs (maybe you intended it to be?) with transparent skin, you can see the parts inside them....just a thought!
You have very fun ideas brewing here....please keep it up!
Chr!z- yeah I know I need to do more life drawings, I'm getting there. I think...
That fat kid- yeah it has been a few days, I've been drawing, just not posting. I only have access to a scanner Tues.-Thurs. but I promise to update with a couple of things, and I'm going to try really hard for that life study.
spicy meatballs- clear hydras? actually... that may be an idea. I'll try and get megs' alternate transformation up sometime also.
here's an update-
this is a character my girlfriend made up then I redrew it, and yes it is supposed to be anime-ish, I probably won't redraw it but C&C always appreciated:
I'm gearing up for another optimus pic, but with a twist. another artist and I are collaborating on this.
I should have something more substantial soon, and I should be able to update with a life drawing also.
Here's my first in a series of ref'd studies, right now I'm going through a hogarth book-Drawing Dynamic Figures?
anyway I did a few head studies I redid in ink to try and increase my line confidence plus I need to practice inking anyway. these are the first small steps... more soon
That fat kid's saying everything I could say and more. Great robot designs. Keep up with studying anatomy and peep stuff from a lot of different cats, heres a list of books I've found helpful: "Figure Drawing" by R.G. Hatton; "Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression" by Gary Faigin; "Anatomy: A Complete Guide for Artists" by Joseph Sheppard. There's another book by Reginald Marsh that I've been meaning to check out "Anatomy for Artists", don't know if it's any good though. Great sketchbook, reminds me of why I liked drawing in the first place.
"Beliefs are rules for action"
"Knowledge is proven in action."
"It's use is it's meaning."
the fat kid- yep I'm definitely trying to get more in-depth, you'll see something soon, but probably not today
Armando- I'll look into those other books, thanks for taking a look man.
here is a sketch for an original character I created- originally supposed to be a transformer, but I nixed that, now he is just one of my favorite robot designs, and I have others that follow this pattern.
this was done later and isn't actually better
any C&C welcome as always
older stuff first, and scanned with a mustek A3 sized scanner, this thing is a godsend, and its farily cheap(180$).
and some stuff done this month
the evolution of a sketch
more to come in the next post today if I can figure out how to make photoshop pics smaller in size.
wow I like the bots alot, I liked pretty much everything I saw, waiting for more
my first foray into the whole coloring thing, just got photoshop and a tablet last weekend. this is me playing around.
so not much C&C needed, but have no fear, I have a more serious version in the works, soon to post a WIP of that.
