i'm looking into either pratt or parsons for their aol/aas program in graphic design..i 've had my ba (media studies, fordham) for 10 yrs and have been walking the line workwise (creative/business) and would like to study /work in graphic design if only on a freelance basis in the beginning (still gotta make $$ at my regualr 9-5). i live in bklyn, work in the city and am leaning towards pratt cuz the courses sound more interesting and give a fuller design education. any opinions from alumni, current students, anyone? thanks.
Here's some honest advice. If you're looking for advice on graphic design this really isn't the best forum for it. There are very few graphic designers here. I would suggest trying the forums at howdesign.com or designateonline.com.
thanks i didn't realize that...ps..so who does frequent this forum then (may be a dumb question but i'm really new to this so any and all info is appeciated)
Mostly concept artists, or people striving to be one. Also some more fine arts type people from what I can see, although I am relatively new here so take this with a grain of salt.
For design, Parsons is generally regarded as the stronger school, I have my MFA from Parsons and aside from the strenght of the program, you leave there VERY well connected. Though that was the MFA Design & Technogoly program, I'm not sure who teaches the continuing education or aas classes.\Originally Posted by alysimone
And I also took classes at Pratt before deciding where to go, 6 of them, so I do have a pretty good perspective. I also took several continuing ed classes at SVA before deciding, for me Parsons was the best of the 3.
Hope this helps
