Definitely not feeling the background. Set it on something, like a table with some other objects. It also looks like you shaded the planes individually instead of thinking of the object ad a whole. If the light is coming from the upper left, then the right side of the helm should be way darker.

Sit a steel pot on a dimly lit table and match the lighting and colors to a degree on the piece itself, you could even go so far as to find some sort of curved metal tubing and discover from life itself how the light bends across the shape and what colors you will find.

My favorite Magic:The Gathering cards were artifacts set in mysterious surroundings....Donato Giancola was one MTG artist great at setting the mood for random inanimate objects...try studying from some of his works as he is a living master.

At least, that's what I would do. The tie-dye background ain't cuttin it for me either, unless this is a picture of a Mexican wrestling helmet.

The shading of the helmet looks fine to me, it's a cartoon helmet afterall. I think it's the whiteness of the background that's ruining it. I also think it would work better if it was cartoon fire, because right now the blended airbrushed look of it clashes with the cartoon helmet.
