I thought I'd do this thread since I dont see one around - but post some images, painting, whatever that inspire you:
The Gulf Stream by Winslow Homer - I dont know what it is about it, but this painting has always scared the shit outta me. I know its got to do with the sharks, I'm pretrified of the sea, but its one of those rare paintings that actually makes me fee dread.
Winslow Homer is the coolest!! love it (can't think of any particular images at the moment, sorry)
Uhhh damn you set the benchmark kinda high there Magic, I was just going to post some 80's cartoon images.....
-Call me Semaj for short.
Homer's ability to take watercolors to an ethereal level is amazing, he camputers the luminosity of water so amazingly well.Originally Posted by Profilthis:

edit: no I didn´t post a winslow homer because magic did it, I just really like this because I´ve spent quite some time at the sea and such.
Lady Agnew of Lochnaw by John Singer Sargent.
This painting is in the National Gallery of Scotland, in Edinburgh. I've been there a few times, every single time, this is the painting that most stands out. I can sit in front of it for ages and just look... and look... so good.

Jamen jag tror att han skäms, och har gömt sig. Vårt universum det är en av dom otaliga spermasatser som Herren i sin självhärliga ensamhet har runkat fram för å besudla intet.
Holy shit, that's a Bouguereau?! I thought he only painted bored shepard girls. That is freakin amazing! Bouguereau is beginning to surpass Sargent as my faviorte painter.Originally Posted by Magic ManHoly lord, thats is amazing - who did this one?
I look at this guy's stuff and I get whisked away to a strange yet familiar world.
He did more than his fair share of bored shepard girls but he's got some other really nice stuff:Originally Posted by ParkerDHoly shit, that's a Bouguereau?! I thought he only painted bored shepard girls. That is freakin amazing! Bouguereau is beginning to surpass Sargent as my faviorte painter.

l.e.b : isnt really that much too see... the whole piece has been painted over by other writers, so it's kind of destroyed
Watching this thread have made me so inspired that i think im glowing.
Great memories came flooding back when I saw your post for inspiration. This was one of my two favorite pieces in the Milwaukee Art Museum. I lived and taught there for about 6 years. Like any other painting, to really appreciate it, you have to see it for real. I hate using cliches when talking aout painting but beyond the masterful surface and use of paint this piece comes alive. I seriously wanted to touch and bite this painting every time that i saw it. I don't know that I have ever seen better skin tones. If there are magical pieces this is certainly one. The museum's whole 19th century European Genre collection is magnificent. My other favorite piece there was an Odd Nerdrum. I don't think that anyone else has posted him here. Simply genius and his works are huge. Also included the only piece for which I am actually planning a pilgrimage for - The Ghent Altarpiece by the Van Eycks.
this photo always warms me up
wow.. I love this thread.
