Yay!, that was a quick week for me. I expect to see entries from everyone who gave Fozzy a hard time about going on summer break. School hasn't started yet and this is what everyone has been waiting for. Don't make me review the threads and make a list of who I should see entries from!

Yay! it's back! I haven't drawn anything in two months and yet COW has motivated me to pick up my pen again. Looking forward to some good competition

    Edit the second:
    Bright-nosed hedgehog
This small nocturnal animal is also sometimes referred to by the misnomer, Lucifer's rat, due to both its strange appearance and the 'light-bearing' nodules on the nose. This bioluminescence attracts moths and other insects which the creature feeds upon. Because it is slow moving, the bright-nosed hedgehog also possesses a number of spines along the back for defense against predators.

    All Hail COW

We drop to our knees in reverent submission, hold our collective breath in awe-inspired anticipation and reach for the tools that allow our mental evisceration.

COW has returned and the masses celebrate. Looking forward to everyone's entries... and the stories behind them.

    C.O.W. - #019: Light Bringer

excerpt from the Liber Accendo ~ chapter Nocens
The minor minions of the Sceleris breed are sometimes known to attempt the harvesting of a soul. Unlike their larger cousins (Diabolus & Malum breeds), these wicked beings are unable to contain the animus or 'soul' they reaped. They are however, not compelled to re-deliver the soul back to it's original host. The soul is often released in the Vacuus, the empty void between realms. This makes the transcendence often very difficult for the now free soul. Some are known to eternally dwell aimlessly in the void.

WB cow.. now, let me drink inspiration from your turgid udder!

For weeks now I've been checking twice a day or more for the return... now that it's back, and with such an ass-kicking topic, I'd better sink that same sort of energy into my entry.

The topic sounds so damn good...

    The Bright-Bellied Promethean Tree Sloth

    it's on the way

"I have read of a man who lived many thousands of years ago, and of all the names in these books, his is the one I wish to bear. He took the light of the gods and he brought it to men, and he taught men to be gods. And he suffered for his deed as all bearers of light must suffer. His name was Prometheus." Don`t know why I didn`t participate in the COW before... I love designing creatures. Here`s my lightbringer.
    C.O.W. - #019: Light Bringer
A deep sea creature. One of the many discovered in the murky waters of Medrona. This one in particular has earned the nickname "Lightbringer" because of the special substance it secretes in it`s mating season. The
substance then reacts with the seawater causing illumination and attracting the attention of many many females (the brighter the trail the more females are drawn to it).

    * Edit - took Hanuka`s advice two from posts below and pumped up the contrast a bit. Thanks for that :]

    Mattinian:

lovely executed! i really enjoy this kind of design. my advice would be to push the contrast in your piece. maybe by changin/darkening the background and working out details on the creature (focus!). in certain areas the creature is hard to distinguish from the background, making the complex design harder to understand.

Bluefoot: Looking at the legs, its quite difficult to figure out what is legs and what is plant behind it. Its almost like an optical illusion. At first I thought it only had two legs. Then I noticed the hind leg, which I followed it up and realised it joined the body. Then I thought it was three legged, like a tripod. Now Iv'e noticed that their is a fourth at the back. THis will probely sort it's self out once its coloured, but I thought I'd say just in case .

Good Job though, looking forward to seeing the finished peice :]

    edit: better now?

Huh? Am I in trouble already?

flatliner: Thanks for the crit! Hopefully the colors will sort out the legs from the background.

mattinian: Really nice! The light effects in the water (?) work well. My only crit is that I wish your creature was a bit more detailed - I want to see a bit more of it, especially around the head.

That's a great illustration Bluefooted. It reminds me of the old marker doodle illustrations I used to color in when I was a kid. Can't wait to see the color version of this one.

Bluefooted - I think everyone is talking about when people quote each other and leave the pic in the quote. It gets repetitive but not because of you

Way to set a high standard for everyone's entry, can't wait to see the color on it.

    C.O.W. - #019: Light Bringer

Light Bringer. Known also as 'The Mother of Stars', this titanic creature was first discovered by probes charting unexplored nebulae on the frontiers of known space. Scientists propose that the beast somehow feeds on the clouds of interstellar gas that surround it, filtering off nutritious particles before expelling unwanted material as a mass of gaseous matter held together by a gravitational field; effectively these bodies of ejected matter are infant stars. Put simply, this unique lifeform shits suns. Very little is known about the creature as attempts to study it in any detail have thus far proved unsuccessful - the image above was captured by the ill-fated USS Gynaecologica following the launch of a biological probe. All communication with the vessel was lost shortly afterwards.
