In a way it makes sense.

But then again, it sounds an awful lot like another excuse for fatties. Even if its true, DONT GIVE OBESE PEOPLE ANOTHER THING TO BLAME EXEPT THEMSELVES!

"Im not fat because i lie on the couch all day eating takeout pizza, drinking coke and play xbox, im fat because el coro left his "signatures" all over my Neighborhood, both on walls and on the sidewalk."

lol, the premise for blaming graffiti is kinda funny. However, its obvious people will get less exercise and eat worse foods when depressed. It doesn't even have to be a noticeable depression; the environment can just lower your mood a little and over time can have ill effects on you.

    fun read, anyhow.

Could it be also that graffiti, excessive litter and lack of green spaces tend to be most prevalent in low-income urban areas than in middle to high income areas? Healthy food is more expensive than junk, and people who don't make a lot of money would have a hard time affording it, thus they would tend to be larger people.

I think that makes more sense, though I guess people not wanting to walk around because it's ugly outside could be a factor too. If you consider graffiti on the whole ugly anyway. If it's any good, it's nice to look at. Litter and lack of green are much worse.

if fatties were to DO graffiti theyd lose weight. All that running around spray painting, running from cops, thats some good exercise.

I was thinking the same. I love train rides into NYC because of all the graffiti along the mountain sides and such. People put a lot of time into it, and a lot of them look really cool.

I used to date a girl in the city, so I would visit every weekend, at one point I took photos of as much graffiti as I could. Too bad this is not a appreciated artistic style; some of it is really amazing, and not just a logo.

damn straight! I'm probably getting 'unhealthily' thin from running and stressfully spraying.

There's more to it than just the uglyness, in some neighborhoods people are actually scared to go out after dark or to go jogging alone. People in low income areas sometimes can't afford to go to the gym either or do some sports that require more equipment (rock climbing, ski...)

"Conversely, in less attractive areas, those with lots of graffiti, litter and dog mess, people are more likely to be overweight or obese and to take less exercise,"
Yeah, just seeing litter and dog mess gives me the munchies Maybe it could be that people who live in graffiti prone areas live in apartments and areas with no yards to mow, or take care of and don't get as much excersise. Then again, I live in a very green area and there's plenty of fat people around here; no graffiti either.

    If this makes you hungry…
    Graffiti makes you fat
…then what does this do to cops?
    Graffiti makes you fat

I still think a lot of it has to do with the food that people eat and what goes into that food that makes people eat. With that said...

    healthy people love food.
    overweight people love eating.
    anorexic people hate eating.
    bulemic people hate food.
the rest are either force fed into fatness, or starved against their will into skinny-ness.

    that's one theory/hypothesis anyway.
you can find different folks that rest between the extremes....and if the theory holds, the physical appearance will manifest....proportionately...hahaha
