Haha, cool. I loved that game

If your working on shading, you need to push your values a bit more, so you have ranges from the blackest black to the whitest white...and everything in between.
Like in your background figure, you have some dark inside his collar...neck...thing! But the rest of his body just seems to melt away; the shading is too subtle and lacks ‘kick’.
Decide on a more definite light source and throw in those heavy darks as early as possible.

You should also try starting on a halftone background, like a grey (when working in black and white) this might help you speed up the process of highlighting and shading, and make it clearer that you are actually doing when rendering it.

Here is a tutorial on light, well worth a read: http://www.itchy-animation.co.uk/tutorials/light01.htm

Once you have all this sorted, you can start on texture

    Fun picture, good luck,
    Thanks for sharing!

EDIT: Oh and by the way, dont stress about 'not improving much'! getting work to a technical pro standard can take years and years, you just have to have fun, if you cant enjoy what your doing, there no point in doing it at all.

Pretty good, make sure to draw through. I feel if we were to remove the girl jim's legs would not connect with his upper body.
