    DAMN! SICK webdesign!

    Hey folks..

Just stumbled over a website that simply made my jaw drop. Its the official website of the Korean movie "The Duelist".

Stunning design and most of all, stunning art.

    Cheers,
    Etienne

I am currently studying unusual websites to gain more knowledge about websdesign and was rather surprised about the visual composition of this one (painted splashpage, the whole "square" layout etc.)- doesnt happen very often these days.

    www.2advanced.com

Web-designers themselves. It's flash, but surpisingly quick and efficient. If you're interested, you can check their older designs as well - they're archived, and somewhat simpler/easier to navigate.

Yeah they used a style that fits their film for the splash page but calling that sick/good/whatever is overrated. It´s like calling a car with a new styling great when it still has the same four wheels and the styling was changed just a little bit (and nothIng else happened). A changed styling without anything else is not jawdropping IMO.
Just a painted picture as a splash page is really nothing new and using a layout raster for a layout... well that´s been used for years.
try this book or this site for some info
That´s why it looks like any other film promotion website(for me)

For something interesting you could try http://www.yugop.com/
He has a very minimalistic navigation menu on lower left part of his site.
It seems that most of his archive doesn´t work (for me).
But you should try to see some of his work.
It´s not just "popcorn webdesign" but he´s working in user interfaces/information design and web design is just an outlet for his work.

And another one is http://www.joshuadavis.com/ but like the site above you are to late.
The good time when there was a great community with good work and when flash was really explored are over. So you will probably not get what is so good about these sites but they (with many others) created a lot of things that were then later just used by others (like 2advanced).
There is nothing mindblowing in people who just "copy" something (style idea) without knowing what it´s about.
That´s what leads to medicore work (everywhere) because the second generation was spoiled and used the community instead of being part of the community.
But I am not here to educate you.
Just try looking further and deeper for information than the surface.

don't work with opera, works pretty bad with safari..

maybe the design is cool, but the programmer can't work correctly.

UNGH 2advanced guys have been ripped for YEARS. I wish they could do more groundbreaking stuff again.

About Duelist website : I was really suprised to hear this kind of music for this kind of movie. Daring.

Edit : on groundbreaking design, I don't necessarly like flash. BUT there are some very well optimised sites out there. I think macromedia has a selection of best site of the week on their website. check it out.
