    this one is the best known species of mermaids (maidens?): the carribean mermaid.
    it's at home in reefs and prefers warm water.

    the concept behind this creature is eyecandy, like most creatures in a reef.
    also, the warm environment doesn't call for a lot of fat in the body, as it would in colder regions. tail, coloration, shape etc... are far more "design objects" than actually functional, due to the reef surrounding.

    i plan on doing some more sketches of different mermaid(en)s. i already have some ideas for deep sea and the northern ice sea.

    comments and critics, both concept wise and technical are highly appreciated
    pic itself is done in painter 6 in about 3 hours from blank canvas to upload.

    Nice idea to do different types of mermaids.
    Try to find some ref on female anatomy for the next. You don't have to copy it, but just to see where all the bones and muscles should be.

    Here's a mermaid I did some months ago, that was based on a goldfish and a green eyed redhead.
