Mort, my first real atempt at oil painting, please give crits!

Hey! This is my first serious atempt at painting in oil and I would be extremely happy for any crits and comments you people here might have to give me.. This page has given me alot of inspiration and alot of you guys are so good its sick.. Hope you might have some pointers for me..

The rest of tha picture will be in dark blue with old surgical tools in orange on it..
Have in mind that my camera suck and that the shadows and background
    is really dark blue..

So here it is so far..

    skull

I guess since I the painting is not complete, I thought it was sitting upright. The shadow work in the 2nd and 3rd images are nice because it seems as if the skull fades into the shadow...a bit like Carravagio's chiaroscuro. I would say look at his work. comin along nicely though.

    Thumbs up

    Very nice chiaroscuro!
The only "flaw" I notice, is that the left eye socket is smaller than the right.

This should turn out quite interesting once you get the rest of the objects painted in. Looking forward to seeing it complete!

obi_e: Not sure I understand the forst part of your post.. Yeah thats sort of the look I was going for..

madster: Thanks for spotting the eyesocket.. Think I got it a bit better on this update.. Maybe a bit to large still.. Cant fix it well until it dries though..

heres the update.. Sorry for the bad quality.. My camera is a bitch.. But it caught the colors as they are irl a bit better now.. fixed eyesocket, some highlights and shading and the rest of the canvas painted.. When its dry I will start doing some more detail and shading and highlights and put in the other objects..

Nice one, I'd love to have something like that on my wall. Like the contrast and strong shadows.

Oh, and 26x40cm is somewhere around 10x15 inches.
