    Question for Sheridan students

Hey there, I have a question for any Animation students at Sheridan College... What kind of computers does the school use - Apple computers or PCs? What kind of computers do they recommend students use?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Paul

Does no one seriously know? I've tried e-mailing Sheridan about it, and still no answer.... I mostly want to know because I'll be buying Maya and Adobe Creative Suite 2.0 soon, and want to know if I should get PC or Mac versions (I have a decent PC now, but could maybe get a good deal on a Mac if I need to).

    Thanks...

when I was in illustration all the comp labs were Mac Labs, except for in the upstairs business area, the library, and the open labs (for internet use, word processing, etc) where they were PCs

    Thanks guys,
Corey, did it actually make a difference whether you had a PC or Mac at home?

I'm not really sure about the animation. But my fellow in animation said mostly they're Mac-based which I'm pretty sure. But some they're also using PC for the paper animation testing lab, or maybe for the first year animation student if I'm not mistaken. Sorry if I was.

I don't know if it's gonna make a difference, personally I used Windows based, I think in my opinion, for computer problems, you need like, you know, a standard graphic computer, a good one, especially for animation. Hope this helps a bit.

well, in illustration theres a graphic design class, and sometimes I couldnt work at home when I wanted to because I started the project on a Mac whilst I had a PC at home... they have ZIP drives at school so when i finished the program I had to burn to CD for my comp... it wasnt a big deal for me, but maybe it will be for someone else.

in animation it's mainly pc.. there are macs available in the animation lab.. but for the most part pc... i think it's generally because the software is much easier to get for pc.. and much cheaper too.. any other art programs, macs are almost solely used.

    Yo !!!!!

    Hey....
You are receiving some misguided info! I just finished a year of 3D animation at Sheridan College...I can assure you they are all PC's dual processor Intellistation Z Pro's...approx 50 - 60 of them. They have just been updated to MAYA 7...there are only 2 MAC's in the lab and they are for AUDIO editing.

The MAC's that were spoken of within the SCAET building are from the new journalism labs across the hall ( next to Second Cup Coffee ).

Nothing against MAC's I have a G4 laptop of my own running MAYA 6....

just thought I'd clear things up

good luck with the course... MAYA rocks! get as much sleep as you can, now
