San Diego Comic Con was intense! Our Maverix Studios booth was a tiny spot on the map - literally. This year we were placed amidst CBS, Universal Television, Square Enix and all the other HUGE structures and other enormous displays, that many of our friends couldn't even f ind us. We each tried our best to stick to schedules in order to be present at the booth and also allow for some time to wander around the Con floor - but there were a lot of variables that occurred that many sacrifices were made.

It has been said about this blonde beauty, that she is one of the cutest of this years San Diego Comic Con security elite.

She was part of a handful of the elite team that kept the crowd from bunching up and blocking our booth when Jennifer Love Hewitt showed up at the CBS booth next us to sign autographs.

Did anyone else see her or meet her, get their ass kicked by her? I wouldn't want to embarrass her or upset anyone she's seeing if she or he happens to peruse these forums, but she was hot!

There was a moment of calm when I took this shot and she was kind enough give me a glance.

Hahaha nice job taking photos of the hot security. OH and great job on drawing her as well. I have a few friends that have done that Con a few times and their advice is to try and get a spot on artist row. One: it's cheaper and two: it's only artists so your booth doesn't get lost in the vast sea of corporate eye candy! Although they also told me that each year the number allowed in artist row gets smaller so you have to sign up early!! By the way i heard a rumer that a life size Optimus Prime was there. Is it true?

    -ThePenciler- :
    Thanks my friend.

Actually the artist alley tables are for individual artists and can be cheaper as well when it is shared by another artist, that is true. We are a studio of 7 people in house (10 members total) and have our self-published books and a couple published by Tokyo Pop and Image Comics. Our best location would be in the small press section where other comic book exhibitors are located. That's where we were in 2004, it was certainly more appropriate. This time we were bypassed and placed where they had availability, it turns out that good booth placement depends on how regular you are to SDCON and others like APEcon and WonderCon ealier in the year. If you have solid attendance for all those venues then you can pretty much request the spot you want and often you'll get it.

I heard the same about Optimus Prime, but I personally didn't see it.

While at the supermarket for shopping bbq fixins', these two lovely girls were in the checkout line. One was a little more enthusiastic about how the day was going so far. Can you guess which one?

    No ref used here.

    Thank you kind EKU_11!

The girl is a digital sketch using Mirage 1.5a. Took about an hour on a cintiq tablet. It's based on a photo by Luis Durante. It pretty much turned out looking like my mechanical pencil sketches. I need to learn more about customizing the brushes in this program.

    HI yeticatcher

thanks for takin a look at my sketchbook.

I really liked seeing your progress... In your figure drawings I like how you started to block out the form and really get to defining all the planes of the figure. and I like how your lines got looser.

With your color works I think it is a good idea to keep in mind that highlights and shodows differ in color not only in brightness. For example a red shirt might have a little blue in shadow and a little yellow on a highlight. Also I feel like you can push your darks more. and also push your highlights. I realize you might be going for a certain look but hopefully that will help.

You have some good stuff and I am looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks Santa. I appreciate your advice. I am aware of reflective color within a shadow area or that a color in shadow isn't necessarily just a matter of making it darker. Sometimes I get lazy and much of the time I just plain overlook that fact.. Embarrassing to say the least. Thanks for the reminder.

And thank you very much for the kind words about my art and your encouragement.

Ever since I saw the promo still of Ellen Page as the young Xmen character I've wanted to do a sketch of it. Far from perfect and rough around edges, here she is...

Here's a little step-by-step should anyone be intrersted:
