A different use for concept art...

So last year I was doing concept are for an animated short. The thing is, the short is made up of watercolors used as matte paintings, so some of the "concept" art made it into the final film.

Really, I've just always enjoyed lurking here and wanted to post up my stuff.

The short is entitled Shift and can be viewed here or via a direct link in the animation section of my website: http://www.JoshMarvel.com

    Hi there,
This is fantastic! I realy like it!

Clever how you managed to manipulate the 2D images to create 3D worlds, id love to do that myself.

Did you compose the music yourself too, or is that from another source?

How long does it take you to put somthing like this togeather?

Again, really cool work, it would be great to see some more in the future!

Thanks a lot for sharing this,
    ~ Ben

The music was composed by a friend.

It's my senior thesis. It took about a year.

I love the combination of tradtional and modern techniques. Kind of obscures any dispositions I would have to either one on their own. Very beautiful piece, it hit me most with the sparkles on the water. At that point I felt very tranquil.
    Thank-you!

Yes a very tranquil movie. It was too short though I really really liked it.

That's what I was going for with the mixed media technique. So many people think digitally created art/films are always sterile or flashy. Sillyness!

There's a subtle shift in the tone of the music during that water shot that I really like. I think it works well with the tranquility theme of that portion. I was very lucky to have someone talented and motivated write music for the film
