Wow. I have been useing photoshop to paint for a couple of years now. I feel like I learned how to paint backwards. I tend to use soft brushes to blend I cannot get the same look with hard brushes.

By the way Im kinda new here

Chuck, did you use a soft brush to render it? it looks way out of focus. this thread (and the other) were focused more on blending brush strokes made with a hard brush (no alias).

also the other thread Digital Painting in PS #2 is the updated thread that people actually are working with. this is an old outdated one.

    hope this helps!

dead or not, it's a shame to have such a great resource now almost useless as min's images have all gone. Can't someone put them back up? An admin or someone?

My shitty first attempt at digital painting.

My first attempt at an apple with a shitty glitchy mouse and a little determination. Had some issues with blending, but I'm getting the hang of blocking and some minor details. Any tips pls message me or reply to this. BTW Look at my horse. It's amazing.
I also had no reference. So it made it waaaaaaaay harder. altogether it took 2 hours.

Is it just me, or are the pictures missing from the OP? Seeing as I don't know how to render at all, I'm guessing they'd make it a whole lot easier.

    Thanks.

Here's my first attempt at painting something in photoshop since getting my Intuos4 for Christmas....

This is one of the first times I've broken through the starting stage of blocking in colour. I usually think I'm not getting the right shapes/tones and just give up but this time I stuck it out and I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm sorry but I STILL don't understand this method :'(
I usually just block down a few colours and smudge them together but it creates a very flat look. I've been searching EVERYWHERE for a better method but half the time I just can't understand what I'm supposed to do
So could someone please break it down for me as simply as possible?

First time 'sketching' with my wacom tablet. Followed the steps outlined in this thread and I was pleased. The banana was sitting on the table to the left of my laptop, wacom to the right. Took about 30 minutes.

    Digital painting in PS

JustSheena - the way I interpret this, the blocking of color just keeps getting smaller and smaller until it's all blended.

The tips I found useful - keep 2 windows open for the same document. 1 zoomed out like 25% so you can really see the whole canvas. the other zoomed in like 200% so you can add fine details where they need. Most of the work was done in the 25% window.

Also, The tip about setting your eyedropper tool to using a larger sample area. To keep blending the image, I would sample right between the blocking areas, so the color picker would choose a good blended color, then just kept stroking the area, maybe like 20% opacity brush. With some time, I can see how this will greatly improve my art.

You can see on the upper right side, I didn't really finish blending. Didn't do the shadow either.
