    Numbers on pencils

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this...

I have two 8B pencils, and one of them is more black than the other. I noticed that both of them have an additional number next to the 8B. The darker say 100, and the other says 204. Do those numbers have anything to do with how black the graphite/lead is?

are they both the same brand? If not, it could just be the differences between brands and the numbers corresponding to model numbers. If they are the same brand, check out the manufacturer's website if you don't get a response here.

    They're different brands.
