Fire in the Hole! UK vs Washington Battle Royale Pt II

    Hello there,

you could see this coming a mile off. We love to ruck! The last men standing turned in this.

There was a choice of three subjects

    After Man
How will the birds and beasts evolve after we've gone the way of the dodo?

    The Life Aquatic
Could be fishies, Atlantis or Aqua Man, I'm not bothered.

    The Roman Empire's 3000th Anniversary
What if the German tribes didn't bring the empire to it's knees, and it thrived and survived to the present day? At first glance, this looks like a subject for environment artists only. It doesn't have to be. It could be a character study/costume design.

However, which is which is anybody's guess.

When messrs Dan Milligan, ozan, DSIllustration, Dallas and Fozzybar have deliberated and chin stroked some, we'll have a winner. To simplify matters, the British entry will always appear first, so you know which camp each contestant fights for.

    enjoy

Really great stuff all around. Very inspiring. I love the way Matt Dixon's and Stokes images look together, Like Matt's character caught a Lunker sea creature, but there is still slack in the line and he don't know it yet! Summer Puddins is pretty damn sweet too. I'm worried Britannia may be ruling our arses once again.

On closer inspection I would have to say...Yeah, we got owned.

Don't make me have to move my ass out west just to help my boy's out next round...if there is a next round.

Damn nice pieces you bastards! Lots of good stuff in here... and look, my sloppy pile of ass (yes, the one where I had to write Rome on the top so you could at least tell what I was kind of going for) wins by default!

Thanks for organizing this Pudd, and great piece btw.

There are alot of interesting and great images up here. Before I comment, Ben Mauro's image is not appearing.

Posh: I like the hotties. This looks really great, I read in the other forum where you were worried about the image cause you changed your mind. I think it looks great, all it needs is some more color. Is that a canvas texture or did you start this as a real painting?

Xia: Great piece I love all the little details and the extra design that is in the corners of the image.

Sketchling: Nice aquatic enviroment. I like how it disappears in the distance.

Britt: I like the diagonal flow and the textures are nice. It looks like they are in the sky more than underwater though.

SummerPudding: I love the atmospheric perspective and the confetti debri flying all around. It looks great.

flattraps: The sketchy quality of the whole piece is wonderful. The textures and lighting looks great too.

Matt Dixon: My favorite thing about this whole piece I think is the fact that it looks different. To me at first glance, it seems more refined than normal, but I also realised there isnt a whole lot of that crazy texture going on you normally have. All of the little details are nice such as the reflection of the boat, and the underwear and sock hanging to dry. I do have to make one crit, the horizon line is rather distracting, and almost comes forward more than it goes back.

Stokes: I like the lighting of the image. The creature design is really cool too, it reminds me of a dragon, whale, and squid all in one.

Oregano: I havent seen your work in awhile, but it looks like you have improved alot. I really like the character design and the texture and details of her outfit. The lighting from above is nice too. My only crit is that they way she is colored, she doesnt appear to be underwater with the rest of the image.

Widigan Trippe: Actually one of the most unique looking images on here due to the look of the texture. The image looks like it is manipulated photo or a 3d piece with a great texture on it. Either way it is really gross looking and I like it alot. I am curious as to what you did exactly.

Ok my hand hurts, I'll resond to more later.

Gloklund remember "we" didnt get owned, its seattle only. Next time for a real UK colony fight, it should be all of the US and not just a state. Especially when this was around the 4th of july, I think it was the EAST that won the independance. Hell seattle didnt even exist then. hahaha.

This is one of the best turnouts ever ever ever! Some fab images...

XIA - I love yours, as I said in 'the other place' (Shhh)... It knocks socks off mine. I was trying to do a Waterhouse pastiche, who always seemed to paint ethereal 'watery tarts'. But wish I'd just stuck with me first idea.

I'll say lots of stuff later... but FANTASTIC work from everyone!

    Thankyou Pud for organising this!

Maybe the UK vs New England(the true colonists!)next time...Hmmm...interesting.
Or they could just go from state to state until they come across some competition... Holy shit did I just say that?! I couldn't have... that's so unlike me...

Umm... Hi fella's...umm heh, didn't see you over there...please be gentle, I'm frail. THWAAAAK!!!

Pay no attention to me, I'm just being jealous that I couldn't play... because I don't live in WASHINGTON!!!!.

    Hot stuff everyone, really!

MattSmith Thanks for the crit I included in my notes to Mr. Pud that I fancied this as sort of a book cover design, so the off colouring on the woman was intentional. I did think seriously about doing some sort of water pattern over her skin, and in retrospect suppose that could have worked, but I opted out mostly for design reasons, but also because I just didn't want to take the time at that point.

Mr. Summer : Is there any chance that we could get topics posted with the pieces? It would help. Thanks greatly kind sir for putting this little rumble on, btw.

    Cheers,
    ~Oreg.

    Royale with cheese....

Sweet work all! Awesome to see how everyone's take came across in final form. Very humbling too. I'll go stick my head in a drawer and slam it shut a few times to get me to think more clearly next time.

Great turn out and a big wodge of fab images! The roman theme seemed pretty popular. I started an 'after man' image before one2hit suggested the Roman 3000... i wasn't sure at first but i think there's been some great interpretations of the theme. I actually started a different roman one too.. So my final piece was actually my third attempt. Hmmm.

I reckon the standard is very high. And there's a few contests where i'm finding it almost impossible to choose a favourite. Puddin's and Flaptraps' contest are a great pair of pictures.

So when are you judges gonna give us the verdict? Us Brits are very impatient y'know... i think it's gonna be mighty close. Especially with the 'no shows'.

Alright guys. This is an exciting show of skills. I will have to say hats off to the European group. They have some awsome pieces backing them up in this competition. Can't say I have one favorite because there is such an arrange of appeal and I think the stronger of the pieces speak for themselves....Great job everyone. Lets do this again some time.

Hey all, a great show of work. Apologies for not being able to be a part of such scrumciousness, now my macs due back and in tip top i'll be up for anything. I wont suggest my favourites, i can just see the amount of work gone into each piece, great stuff.

Oregano: Great image man, i knew you'd come up trumps. I like that pearlescent, irridescent color sceme youve described. Nice one, im even more up for revisiting our challenge. Just say when bro.

Once again, well done to all.

Really cool stuff guys. But since this was due July 4th, it should have been "England vs the original 13 Colongies: The Fight for Independence!" Next year perhaps.

Really nice environments by Koshime, flaptraps, Pudding and sketchling.

Love Dixon's and Stokes, that was a good fight.

Nice peices by Posh and xia, though Posh, your piece is very gloomy, and they are all sad. Show these beautiful ladies a good time!

Jetpack: watts has taught you well, nice improvement, but the perspective of your piece really throws things off. The facial expressions are really nice.

    I'll comment more later.

This is going to be tough.

Pud, you want to see a victor in each match? Or just my thoughts on beauty and the meaning of life? Some of them are hard to say which is stronger, but I will if you really want to see some blood.

Great stuff guys. I’m working on my notes.
