How do you build your bases Dex? I haven't sculpted much recently, and partly because im not excited about buying a pre-fab "armature stand" and slapping my armature on it... If you could help out it'd be much appreciated, and i might get some more work on the forums!

Sorry for the late reply the bases i use are 1/2" pine cut out with a jig saw, then sanded down. The pine will some times warp when you bake your sculpt and pitch will seep out, so you might try some thing else out. I use it because I get it for free.

haven't sculpted in a while I want to get back at it, thanks for looking.

Hi RenegadePogo thanks. I really like the paper clay, although I usually make a mess of my work area when I use it. Here an update on my spider creature I have been working on.

I need to come into the sculpture section of the forums more often, I'm really digging the one that your working on that your avatar pic is from. I checked out your sketchbook also and now I know why your life drawings have such a great sense of form, anyway you make this stuff look easy man .

Wow... you win for most improvement. I looked at the first page and went, "meh..." then skipped to the 5th and was like, "Is this the same guy?!" All your practice is really paying off!

    love the character

so simple, roughly, but with lot of power
    good shapes
it's good to see a conan so different than others, with this disney cartoony style

    i love it

What kind of paint is that?
    Did you use brushes?

Hi pijay-brown thanks, I hand paint with acrylic, I would like to try an air-brush some day when I could afford it. Here are a few thing I have been doing and some of my tools I have collected and made. The three on the end are tools I bought and took the heads out to make the new ones and the dental tool next to them I found this summer at a flee market, the guy had hundreds of 40 different tools and he was selling them for 3 dollars each so I think it was a good find. Thanks for looking every one.

Oct 24th thats my Birthday, Happy Birthday me! hahaha

Thank you Breath of life and hugeanticpeanut

hugeanticpeanut- It's called CREATIVE PAPERCLAY, the package is half a pound for around $10 CND. The SS here about $20 CND a pound, so they equal out to about the same.

Bugger.. Whas hoping to find some cheap stuff that wassn't a complete waste of time and money.
You can''t have it all I guess. Do you have any pointers about what clay too use while learning, too not end upp all broke. or should I stick with SS for the time being and first learn that before I try something else?

Sorry bout all the questions xD
I'm doing a Neo Nazi samurai for learning porposes, too get the feel for detail and learning how too make stuff fit together.

one more question btw. do you draw concepts before modeling or do you sorta go with the flow sometimes?
    Your my hero!
Keep up the good... no Great work!

Hi How is every one? I'm back in school, and here is a project I'm working on for class. It's about 3 hours of work so far, I'm pleased with how it is coming along. It's a study of a portrait of Nero that was reworked to be Vespasian.

    Thanks everyone
