Phantasmagoria : Jason Snair's Sketchbook : Updated TODAY!
I'm going to the San Diego Comic Con this year and I'm gonna print up a mini-sketch book of some recent stuff. For the past few weeks I've been going home from work each night and sketching for like 4 hours. Here are some favs that I'm going to include.
From a small series of sketches that revolve around future world characters.
This one is some sort of retired captain.
Same series as above. This guy is a ship mechanic.
UPDATE: November 20th 2006
On the second page i've started this eyptian fable. I'm gonna produce a number of characters, enviros, scenes, storyboards, final paintings...the whole works.

Reason: updated title
Main Loop: No problem, be my guest. I've never had anyone want to color my stuff before...so, it's cool. I like what you did with it.
Here's just some more random stuff from the past few weeks.
This one is from a landscape drawing that I did when I was in Italy (up behind Assisi, if anyone wants to know) a few years back. I whipped out the old drawing, then redrew it with the castle in the foreground and the airship balloon.
just a quick concept drawing. I figure one of them is the muscle and the other is the brains.
ya know Johnny78, as soon as I posted that image it started looking really weird to me. (The Superman figure is drawn horribly) So I took your crit and tried to make him more to character. Kent is still "Woody Allen-ish" (I drew him a little beefier this time) but I tried to make Supes a little more heroic. I also fixed his "S" and I think the arms are a little too small still, but it's working a lot better now.
Here's just two more for the day. These were done in my actual sketchbook. Usually I draw on large sheets of tracing paper when I'm at home. (It's cheaper since I go through so many sheets, and it gives me a larger area to work on) I reserve my sketchbooks for traveling on the commuter train or when I'm not at home. The first one is recent. The guy sketch is about a year old now.
wow...i hadn't realized that people were responding to my thread here after my last post. Thanks guys, i appreciate the comments.
I've been working on some stuff for the past month now, but nothing worthy of showing off here on conceptart. In the past week I had some inspiration to do my own versions of classic movie monters. They're not unique or different by any means, i just want to end up doing maybe 7 or 8 oil paintings based on each character. Dracula/ Vlad, the Mummy, Wolfman, Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Medusa.
Here's some sketches for Medusa and the Lagoon Creature. They still need a lot of work before I go into finals mode (like I want Medusa to have a snake body) and I have the rest at home but I forgot them this morning.
Hi Jason!! You have some really great stuff here. I like your tone book, I actually just got one myself ! I really like the way the gray makes the white pop. You have an erie fascination with monsters, sweeeeeeet!
It's been about a month now, where are those digipaints at?!

Hey everyone...just a mini update today. Thanks for the 4 star rating to whomever did it.
ApolloNuevo: Glad you liked that local. I really want to do a whole series of that drawings for that tower. Hopefully that will come soon.
jacobsteel: Thanks man.
Cobi Hi: Yeah....those digipaints? My plan was to have a computer by now. You see, I'm looking for a new job and about a month ago, I thought I landed one but in the end it didn't come through. Once I do get a new job, I'll be able to get a iMac (or G5) about a month later...I need to save a little bit first. I can't wait though.
You have some great style on you. Your characters really seem alive and not just static images. Very impressive. Do you have anything more finished you could post? Maybe something in color or even digital? I know you have the robot-sombie, but that was back in June, just wondering if you were practicin'. Like what I see, nice work!

masterpug: To be fair...the colored version of the robo-monkey is not mine.
Main Loop did that...he just felf like coloring it. I really want to start doing some digi-color sketching. I just don't have a computer yet to do it. Very soon though, I hope. If you'd like to see some of my finished paintings just check out my website. www.jasonsnair.com
Undertow: Uhh...I don't think I've heard of him before. I'll look him up though.
Art_Addict: thanks man. right now i'm really working on my poses. Believe it or not though, drawing people just standing around is always a challange for me.
