I found this girl's pic on the net. I believe she's some kind of japanese-pop artist. Never heard her music but I was amazed by her beauty. I decided do her portrait. Original sketch in HB. I only dodged this one with the mouse. Makes her look like an angel.

I dont know how old your are but someone needs to praise you for all the hard work you did there with the dummies and other form studies. My opinion is that you should keep strengthening that way of thinking, since its the secret to strong solid drawing. A good excercise for someone like you is to take some of those dummies and using anatomical charts as reference, try to wrap the muscles around the forms.

    Just a thought...

    Groovy

Those are very spirited drawings. Do you draw comics? I'd love to see your work put to a story.

You need to work on your proportions... But I absolutely praise you for your dedication and it's only matter of time before you get right there at the top. The studies are solid and not the easiest. Love the concept drawings, though the execution might not be your strongest at the moment but the idea is definitely there. Keep going, love your work! Big potential.

    cheers,

I can't believe I finally got some replies and there's 5 of them!

Mindflaw: Thanks. It's always cool to be giving advice by the great ones here at CA.

Tetsuo: Don't worry, I will you're right. It's good to have a sketchbook.

memento313: I'm 21. Thank you very much. I'll follow your advice.

Xenmurok: He he, well I'm not really into comics right now but I'll see what I can do

bumskee: my proportions? That's new... I usually get: "poor line quality" and "lack of confidence". I usually use the 8 heads grid instead of the 7 heads. I guess that is my main mistake. Thanks for saying I got potential. That's always cool to hear (or to read).

    Pesmerga,

ewww, you are right, now I am looking at your stuff I don't know where I got "proportion" from, if anything that seems to be one of your strength. Weird... ptttf, no no your proportion is good. I am such a noob, I feel like an idiot.

back to your sketchbook, nice update. Been busy, the hand studies are awsome, man you do have some patience, I envy that a lot about you. The chick's got massive boobies, too big and round?

    keep going! cheers,

Keep on crankin out the drawings my only crit too you is to let those damn excessively large breasts go. You don't need to draw those big torpedos. On another note I like your energy keep it up. Try not and concentrate on shading as much try doing drawings of the form, I am having the same problem as well, so i'd thought i'd share. keep drawing.

holy crap, there are a lot of images here! although you are putting the work in, you might be thinking "quantity over quality." you shouldn't be thinking this way... it's better to spend 3 days on one well-thought drawing instead of doing 50 scribbles. this is what i think you need to work on atm. just try to slow yourself down and focus on what you're really drawing. other than that, keep it up-

    Here's the new $h!t

Odds: I guess you're right. I'll spend more time with quality next time. But I don't totally agree with you. Here's my philosophy: "Don't think, just draw. Draw until your hand hurts. Then draw with your other hand."

You are really hard-working, man. And you seem to prefer the anime style.
I don´t know what your long-time goal is (to draw like Tsutomu Nihei or to draw more realistic) but I think that having a look at anatomy books would help you. Everyone here is pretty enthusiastic about Loomis´ book. I haven´t bought yet, but maybe one day I will. I gotta work on my anatomy, too

Hey Pesmerga, looks like your work ethic is fine. hmm i would say more life drawing, i see you have an imagination which is great but you have to also study the world around you. unless maybe you do do studies taht you dont post, i do not know. To me, drawing from life really trained my hand eye coordination which is crucial. Keep up the work!

    4th of July

Happy Independence day to all you americans.

OleOlsen: Thanks. I also believe I am getting better. I stil need some practice though. I'm still far from being a pro. My anatomy studies are from last year. I posted them so you could compare it to the new studies I'll eventually post.

liam.c: Okay, I could only understand half of what you said. But I got the essential, thanks.

johnny78: I am working hard indeed (maybe a little too hard). I like anime but I don't like to call it "Manga". It's more a mixture of italian style and japanese style. I'm still exploring and looking for another style but I feel comfortable with what I'm doing. I believe that's the most important thing.

Odds: Your probably right. The reason I draw so much and so fast is because I'm working on my self-esteem. A lot of people told me I lacked confidence in my strokes so I decided to try and change that. I should also work on my line quality though

LadyLioness: Yes, I know. I prefer the imagination part but I still draw form life. I'll be doing more of those in the days to come. I guess I'll put my imagination to rest.

Hi I'll try to give some advice more than keep doing what you are doing of course all advices are of imo-advice based on my own newbie-experience, but they come from heart

when you use perspective make sure to use t the whole way trhough theres a lot of "cheating" in the perspective lines. I think this is bad since if you don't follow the perspective you don't really see the result of them so that you will understand the limitations and strenghts of a certain perspective.... be it one point or two point etc perspective and also use a ruler to get them perspective lines correct.

I think that both odds way and your way has it's flaws and strenghts I would say to you... try to set some time to do at least one piece that you put in a lot of time in...because e.g to make a fully rendered pencil piece is different from fast work... so when you feel that your fast approach aren't giving you any progress anymore and you want to start doing fully rendered pieces it will be like taking a giant step back... I know this from my own experience and that why you should give a little time to do well-thought out pieces too even if it's just a little bit of your total drawing time.

To give the appearance of confident lines I somtimes draw my pic very lightly and then I go over it one more time with normal pressure cause then I know exactly where I should go with a certain line and also thought out things like lineweight thus the lines appears to be confident cause they are hehe then I just erase the remnants of the lightly drawn lines and do some touch-ups

lastly don't take a full break from sketching keep some time doing that even if you put major time on ps.

    Keep up the great work
My sketchbook flawed to the max page 5
    Ps:Hope you understand my English.
Remember my advices taste best with a grain of salt.
