    shadow nightmare illustration

    shadow nightmare illustration

    Hi everyone,

This is an illustration I did for the cover art of a game design document my class worked on this quarter.

The game is about a boy working through his various traumatic childhood memories (the levels) and defeating shadow nightmare creatures to put back together his shattered psyche.

The cat is his sidekick after he defeats the “dead pet” trauma level. So the cat is not real per-say, that’s why it doesn’t have a face.

let me know what you guys think

    Ali

my immideate reaction was .. hey cool

then I started to look at the kid.. he just seems a little lame compared to the rest.. feels like you could have pushed him further..made him really stylized. Since the rest of the image is already..

At first the kid didn't seem frightened enough, but you explained that. The posture of his right hand is a little worrysome. what is he reaching for exactly?
Good job though, I actually got that the cat was not supposed to be quite real, but maybe he needs to be slightly less substantial all the same More like the shadow under the kid?

Kids arms are too short, also black contures could be clearlier.

KenDeathwalker- "Lame"! oh no!, lol but i know what you mean, though i kind of like him lame, a ordinary kid to counter the stylized shadow... i might be wrong.

Gilead- actually i am not sure what’s going on with that hand. the cat is in a weird area, im not sure that i would want to make him more shadow like though...?

    HugeHarHar- hey thanks!

Danilo- yea your right about the arms, though i like the sketchy contour lines... is that what you were referring to by "black contours"?

vigostar thanks! that is a interesting series idea, maybe someone should start a thread with that topic for people to post into...
