The Revenge of the Lord of La Quinta.

Ok compadres, so, this is the rebirth of the La Quinta Challenge thread. Some of you may remember the old thread.. it got lost somewhere in the pages of old threads, morphed into meta's weekly design bout, then suffered a slow and unfortunate neglect... but basically, I've been a chatting with some of the old contendors and there seems to be mutual interest in a revival... so here goes.

Basically, we'll spend a few days discussing a challenge topic, each work on it over a few weeks, mutually vote on a winner, lather, rinse and repeat.

For this first round, I think we should stick with the original members of the la quinta thread, and then open it up once we've got one challenge out of the way.

    SOUNDS LIKE FUN TO MEEEEEEEEE!

To start the discussion, I think we should do something monster-related. I like drawing monsters.

although i like the idea that only the original members stick to this challenge.
how about doing "revival of the lord of laquinta" as topic? some kinda zombie lord rising from the grave?

i think a monster relating to something in the entertainment news would be fun to toy with... we'd be dealing with likeness and concept. just a thought

what would the deadline be? I think it should be ample to get quality pieces- but not too much time, we'd lose initiative if it was too much.

    good thinkin joetron.

even longer wouldnt be bad... 3 weeks?

i like the 'monster balls' too... its a vague open theme... could lead to all sorts of crazy stuff.

And, for those of us who remember the very very first La quinta TD (back in austin)... is there a more fitting theme?

Nothing makes me happier than drawing a huge pair of monster testicles. If we can't do that, though, I'll just work off the sketch of Cotron's I did in Austin while he was sleeping and turn it into something less asymmetrical.

So I'm down for whatever, as long as the finished product resembles Cotron's balls.

haha no worries carnifex.. metas drawing was something that I've been trying to FORGET for three years

    This'll be a fun topic.
I'm for setting the deadline for the end of the month. That's a little over two weeks away, and is easy to remember

There are still a few of the original stragglers who haven't stopped in, but it's hard to argue with such a hothot theme.

    Does anyone NOT want monsterballs?

how bout "revival of the lord with the monster balls?"
jack-as far as i know we got down to the original members who participated here.(because i wasn't in austin and i started the whole thing together with joe)

edit: or we just chose "the revenge of the lord of laquinta" (could involve monsters and balls)

Yeah, I think, at least for this first round, we should keep it contained to just the old crew. They've all been PM'd, so they know who they are...

I'm not opposed to opening it up after that though? Any thoughts guys?

Ok, I hate to be the guy to finalize things, esp. since the Lord of LaQuinta himself is still a no show, but it seems like most people are liking the topic...

TOPIC: MONSTER BALLS, (if we can somehow work in the 'Revival of the Lord of LaQuinta' theme, then that's bonus points!). Anything goes. Any medium goes, everything from a full painting to a very refined sketch is good terrority.

Since no one was opposed to it:
Due date: is the end of the month! That's two weeks.

    Time fer DRAWING!

    optimal compromise! thank you joe!

well, personally i'd like to stick to the original members after that also, but if you find a reason to expand the group..."too many cooks make the soup too salty" would be my argument. we are quite many already and i don't want this to turn into a dsg where hardly anyone can comment because there are too many entries...

This should produce some top notch portfolio pieces, my friends. Nothing like a gallery opening up with a shot of monster testicles to remember you by.
