Its' free and it takes less than 10 seconds!
we have been deleting threads which sole purpose gains another company money. i have always turned down all advertising on this site. if the companies who approach me for advertising had it their way, this site would be a giant direct link to their sales pages.
do you know we are not covered in banners? because I personally do not want it that way. Other companies come in here and post their stuff thinking that they will use these forums to generate cash. they send people they know to post their spam here or are just some random person going around posting ads. I do not fund this site, the building of the new tech we are about to release, and spend time planning it's future to help other companies get rich by advertising on these boards...i turned down their money to advertise here many times...why would i let any of these companies advertise for free?
If a company wants to advertise on the site, they need to approach me directly. The answer will be this simple. NO. As far as this site is concerned, I see all companies advertising their goods on here as spam. all threads doing so will be deleted. at times exceptions are made. but, they are very rare.
some of you all have been griping about this. you have no idea what we go through to keep this community moving forward. if we wanted this to be a FOR PROFIT site we would have set it up as an LLC or an S CORP. We did not, we are set up as a Non Profit Organization. There are strict rules on what this site can be used for and what it can not.
I hope this helps people understand why we do not tolerate spam of any kind.

Jason, one semi-personal question - why are you banned on Eatpoo. Some mentioned it in the other thread about dissapearing threads including other forums names, so I went there to see what's this all about. Because when I first got to CA.org and saw CA.org vs.Eatpoo thunderdome I figured you guys are friends. And now - after some reading - seems like you hate each other's guts. Well like they hate yours actually
because i banned one of their mods for making racial slurs and rather horrible comments on these boards. He only came here to cause trouble on ca. I warned him and told him racism was not something we tolerated. the behavior continued so I banned him. i would not let him back in even though he threatened to ban me over there. that was more than a fair trade for me. so there you have it. I don't hate eatpoo at all. I still check out that site on a regular basis. Lunargirl's thread alone is worthy of the trip.Originally Posted by thirdeye

Fair trade indeed. That's what I - and many other users - like about CA.
Since you're here for a bit longer first time in few weeks, let me ask you another question. What are you guys up to? Steak-tron said you (and other MB members) are mad busy atm with something.
Also how's the new tech you're about to release - we're all very looking forward to it. As well as the next workshops.
I gotcha Jason. And don't think its not all greatly appreciated...it is very much so. I guess how I viewed it was...these were topics relevant towards art progression and learning tools. Not meant as spam, but along the same lines as art book reviews, and art school threads. Why not delete the entire education section? Look at how much more money goes to them. There is a huge difference between spam and discussing artistic development objects with respected art peers and professionals here.
By no means is anyone trying to take business away from conceptart.org, my personal #1 education source.
Sketchbook be here...
And hence the .org domain name. I bought a .com and a .net domain for my site, and that's because I plan to make money someday with it. And you know why I consider that to be even a remote possibility? Simple: because of CA. Here I learned how to draw and continue to learn. With the skills I'm getting here, my webcomic will be among the elites within two years. And that's not me, that's all you guys. If it wasn't for CA I'd still be drawing like the crap in the first post of my sketchbook. Thanks for running this place.
I agree with Rkhon but I understand your feelings on this matter. I don't agree with them as I wasn't spamming free ipods, viagra or anything unrelated to concept art. "Deleting threads which sole purpose gains another company money" is only a one dimensional statement -- You are gaining knowledge by buying learning materials. I'll never go to art school. So if I find a book from Amazon, a dvd from Gnomon or an online lecture from CGWorkshops that might help other artists I will make it known. But I understand your reasons and will abide by them while being a guest on this forum. I wish you luck on all the site's future developments.
perhaps the education forums is a better place for the threads like that.
you have all made good points. thanks for the input.
the mods will simply move the threads like that to the appropriate forum.
Even though this is off-topic...you may want to know that I'm working on it. I have been setting up and configuring stuff (everything from daily backups to a cool version control system...hehehe) the last week or so, and I'm slowly getting to the point where everything is in place and working. There are a few things that need to be more polished before I can finally put them online. We're talking about member portfolios (which will be visible on your profile page), and a cool little hack for alternating row colors, which will hopefully make the forum and thread lists a little easier to read.Originally Posted by thirdeye
PLease please please please please please keep this community non-profit, free, and ad free... I know that's a damn near impossible task for the few of you behind the curtain, but I for one owe the skills I have gained, endless inspirations, many good friendships and countless gained opportunities to THIS community. Someday, Jason, I'm gonna give you guys a big fat donation.
Well, big is relative, but relative to my wallet, it'll be big.
