Hey, thanks for comment. I Have enjoyed looking through your thread. One of the stronger points is the skulls you have drawn. They are looking excellent, have done a lot of skull drawings? Just looks like you have a really good line of those pieces and are being a little looser with the pencil, its a really nice style.
The latest concept pieces are looking really good. Generally I don't have much crit at the mo, you seem to be moving in the right direction, especially with the figure drawing. Maybe to focus more on realism? Looking good tho, I'll def keep checking out your sb.

Hey there Matt, thanks for dropping by my SB, and thank for the advices. I must say that i really reeeeally like your work here. Some details of the drawing are really amazing.
Being a noobie in this (barely 2 months) i don't see anything wrong in your drawings (i dunno, like fake perspectives, wrong anatomy or stuff like that), so keep doing them, they are really great.

Cheers, and drop by my SB. Soon i'll have more updates (3-4 days).

Check put my schetchbook if you please

sith- thanks, its the best drawing ive ever done.

mitch- thanks. doing paint gestures are fun and really make you think about planes and shapes, the later ones, i tried to get the shapes down in one stroke and try not to fuss over it too much.

Alcian- thanks. I have drawn alot of skulls but probably not enough. One can never draw enough skulls and other bones and muscles as well.

T-Raktor- Thanks. I have been drawing forever. I used to think I was pretty decent at life drawing and then I took classes at Watts and relized how bad I sucked, I have only taken 4 classes, but I feel that I have learned so much and come a far away in just those few of classes.

Recursive_End- Thanks for the comment. Hopefully you will see some rendered stuff from me in maybe a week or 2, as long as I feel that what I do doesnt turn out too bad. Right now I am in an idea sketching phase where I just sketch a ton of things, not worrying about taking it to a finish, but some finishes should show up soon.

Just a small update with a few sketches...

Here are a few of the sketches I did for the seattle vs socal TD. I seriously need help with doing digital, i cant get loose and i am so picky and uptight and anal its so frustrating. I lost so much that I had in my sketches when it came to my final. I am going to use the 3CH thingy and do some speed paints and alot of expiriments and see what happens.

Great udate! The latest skulls are looking great, the one looking down is well done - I find it so hard to do that view. Lovin the lines and the rendering in your pieces. Could you maybe make your pages a little darker, cos I can't see the drawing clearly . More figures would be so cool as well.

What's up man? I like the sense of movement in this one
    http://www.mattksmith.com/MattSmithv...tdomeSmall.jpg

My only crit is that for this last painting, i kinda wish that there was something there describing his face, like a small bit of reflected light or something. Otherwise, i think that painting is pretty kickass. He should just drop the sword and backhand everyone. Anyway, keep up the awesome work man!

hey man, your stuff is looking good although i would recomend pushing the darks a little bit further on your sketches, it makes them look a little more complete and well done. I am really diggin the form studies in oil, those are looking really nice. All around your stuff is steadily improving. Keep it up.

Sith- thanks for the comments. The reason why I didnt put anything on his face is because for the character, you arent supposed to see his face, but I will see what everyone in class tells me tomorrow.

mitch- Thanks. I know I do need to start sketchin darker.

Here is the minotaur. Since I have been having difficulties doing digital work, I really expirimented with these last 2 images and for the most part, I think they are successfull for me anyways. The first one I did similar to what i have been learning in my quick paint class, and this one, I did similar to an oil wipe out, just in photoshop.

The speedpaints are looking awsome, i really like the fact that they were done under different lighting as well - they have so much energy and look well proportioned. Were they done in acrylic? Im gonna have to have a go at that when I next do life drawing. I go a load of acrylics that I have barely used, lol.

Man, i allways hated being in homeroom where the teacher would say "matthew Smith" and all five of us raised are hands. Im glad your representing us though, cause this stuff is jealousy. my jealousy.

i allways want to find time to just sit and do some hip ass painting life drawins, but i never bother. I should, and hopefully i will have half of the wisdom when it comes to your pallette.

    Sweet stuff man, sweet stuff.

The older man with the glasses is my fave. pure man beauty in the ugliest, most beautiful way.

Cold- Thanks, im glad it helps.

Orozc0- Thanks, I think I am starting to get addicted to speed painting.

dkounios- THanks, alot of people seem to like the witch one.

Andy P- Thanks, I had fun doing them .

Alcian- Thanks, they are oil on sketch paper. Some advice when you try it, think basic shapes and dont get picky with details.

Megamau_X-Thanks, yes there are alot of matt smiths out there, but hey what can I say, our name is awsome. Do try and paint sometime soon.

    Omi-kun- Thanks.

mitch- Thanks, yes some of them could use some clean up, just so hard in so little time.

Tetsuo-Thanks. Yes I do go to Watts too, havent had any classes with fuki yet though, thats where the long figure came from. The quick paints and character stuff was done at laguna, but after this semester I am leaving laguna and going full time to Watts for a few months. Its so awsome down there.

Small update with just a few character sketches, no ref, hence some wierd anatomy.

I like the design of the 3 headed skulla! BUt, for me personal, it would confuse me abit to much if i had to draw him in different camera angles with the extra heads being melted into this neck, ...me being awkward?

Cold- Thanks. Ya i thought about the camera angle thing too, thats why I did one drawing from the side view, by the time I am done with him though, he will probably look totally different.

Big paint sketch dump. The first ones are alittle different, for class we had to add a story to them and mix different colors, it kinda kicked my butt, but here they are anyways, the rest are for my sketchbook and arent done from life, but from other anatomy books. The last set are done in goauche, just trying something new.

Hey bro, thx for the comment in my SB.. returning the favor. I like your pencil work. It has a nice sense of depth, especially that 15hr life drawing. Your creature designs are good as well, nice imagination in them.. keep up the good work.

Judging from some of the last ones your digital painting is getting better as well.. something i also need to work on.

    keep posting!
