how old did you say you are?

These pictures look to static and rigid. If you're younger than 13 that's a good thing because you've got many a long year before you get it together.

My advice would be to get a book out from the library on an artist called Ingres for you to measure how far away you really are.

Yeah, that's fair... compare a youngster with Ingres.

Styler, all I can say at this point is to keep practicing, everything and anything. Work on your anatomy and proportions and pay attention to how things relate to one another; space, shapes, that sort of stuff. keep it up.

    Oi Keep at it

The suggestion I would make is to clean up the lines on your sketches some. You sketch alot for begining not long ago so you have the drive, insperation is a different matter. it looks like you are drawing from references and that is good, so keep at it, practice all you want and keep pushing yourself. So go out and continue, sketch and be happy.

Yes! Go Steinmetz. You shouldn't be drawing if you're not an artist. You shouldnt play football or any sport if you're not a professional athlete. And you
shouldn't come to visit other people's sketchbooks if you are braindamaged.

    -Measure how far you are...
who gives a shit how far anybody is. Usually people draw if they like drawing.

Keep drawing Styler. Will be following your thread.

It seems like alot of the pics are missing structure. I suggest you practice boxes, spheres, and cylindars for pages and pages. Don't stop sketching, but you should practice those (alot!). You'll get used to doing an entire sketchbook full of heads and hands.

Man, I wish I had your determanation, I got interested in drawing back when I was 13, since then i have been taking pictures i see in magazines and anywhere else there is some sort of cartoon/anime charater on it and ive been drawing them, I have not studied any sort of anatomy or anything like that..... Hmmm.. seems like im trying to start my own SB here doesnt it? Well my point is that you should take classes on drawing or get reference book on anatomy and go from there, you should improve dramatically even if all you do is just copy the images again and again, because the basic shape will get stuck with you. Like everyon else is saying, practice, practice and practice more.

Seth1: thanks, I downloaded all of those books via bittorent from a link on www.anim8or.org. Your right, I should read them, I need too....badly lol. I'll dive into those soon.

RenegadePogo: yea, I have that problem also...I took your advice and did a page. I'll do some more pages and then start hittin heads and hands...I need to do that. Thanks

lokimonkey: thanks lol, yea i'm am pretty determined. I am currently a senior and i'm in an independent study drawing class, a sculpture class, a 2 hour enviromental design class (which is drawing/cad stuff). Then after that I have drawing 3 for another hour. So right now I have 5 hours a day at school for art. Then after sports I go home and draw some more. Next semester in January i'll be taking night drawing courses at the junior college in my area. I'm doing the best I can. I'm using this thread to show self progression over time, I know i'm not exactly at par, but i'd like to use it to look back.

your improvements on faces is showing in your drawings...

practice is the only advice I can give right now, I'm not a big teacher like some of these forum guys. but you're improving very quickly; if you keep up this progress you'll be totally badass in no time.

Well, you're certainly not lacking in ambition and that's great. Keep drawing, sketching, whatever, you can only get better. Watch out for proportions and structure on your face studies. You don't seem to be following your own guidelines that were put down. Make sure that everything lines up. The later ones show more improvement.

Good start. And I like the fact that you did a page with boxes and cylinders, although they donīt look very convincing. Yet. My suggestion to you would be that you study perspective until you can set up a convincing cube in any desired position freehand. Itīll help you with the loomis stuff and everything else. Keep going, your dedication will bring you far.

k, I try to study perspective a bit here. I'll have to study some more though like you said.

not quite finished with this page yet.

k I didn't draw this last image. This is a result of what happened when I took my sketchbook with me to the regional cross country meet. I try to draw and people on the bus kindly asked me if they could use it. It went around the bus for a bit and then when I got it back....the person that this page was making fun of was walking my way down the aisle...I had to quickly throw it in my sports bag...I would've been so dead. Well not really...it was the last day of the season...but still. Anyway just thought i'd throw it up since it was in my book.
