Hey there. Thanks for the kind comment in my thread. I really like that Bowie piece in the pastels. Great work. How do you like sketching on a bigger area? My sketchbook is 11x14. It barely fits into my backpack. I would not be able lug around a 14x17. As it is, it's already hard for me to scan my work. But I do like working on a bigger space. Excellent Elvis again. Keep up the great stuff. I'm glad you're trying out new ways of art. I'm stuck on pencils.

hey dude, madd prolific. nice nice. advice for the marylin pic: i think if you do something with the teeth, it may look better. looks like she has a mouthpiece in her mouth and too much lipstick smeared on. anyway, my 2 yen. enjoy summer-ness.

    Fellah - Thanks Bowie rocks

Darkchild - I love the bigger space. I've been doing a lot of pastel lately (don't know why, normally i paint more ??) and a bigger area gives me more space to smear stuff. hehe. I have a big plastic bag I lug my stuff around in. It's annoying sometimes, but it works. I don't think I'd be able to go back to a regular sized sketchbook.

Purb - I was disappointed with how the skin & eyes turned out in the Marilyn pic.. So I lost interest and stopped.. I'll go back to it in a few days and fix stuff. You're right about the mouth. How did I make her so ugly? lol

Well you are definately very busy! I like that keep up that attitude!

Actually I like the pastel-jolie very much I don't know what you don't?

Well, for advise, I'd say that you should try to give your painted dudes a bit more depth and texture in skin-rendering. Right now they look like porcelain. I don't know exactly how to work on it, since I'm not that a painter. Perhaps you should look carefully the baroque-painters did it. I always find them a useful and pleasureable source of information!

Hey Kid, I'm very intrigued by this painting. I believe that it is my favorite piece that I have seen of your work. The eyes are diplaying alot of character. The dark color choices and the purple eyes are definitely evoking a moody feel, which I like. Anatomy of the face looks good, except I think that the jaw line should be straighter and not have that slight indentation in it. I am seeing a progression in your stuff which I personally like. You seem to be defining your style. Keep it up!

Whatever you do, don't look at my Sketchbook and Painting Thread!

    More Crap.

Hey Hylander! Thanks for the comment. There are a few things on the purple eye girl that I would like to change.. but I already sprayed it. Oh well.. I'll just learn for the next one hehe.

Almost finished product, acrylic painting I'm working on for my 2nd favorite dad. He digs '51 mercs.
I need to define the letters and headlights a bit more, fix the tire and the white blotch above the hood.. Then.. I think.. I might be.. DONE!

Just playin around with sharpies. This show rocks! (it's a lot easier repositioning cartoon characters!)

Messin around. I don't really like how this came out, not what I was seeing in my head, but close enough.

The Family Guy is my all time favorite show!! Awesome work with that piece (see I'm not biased or anything). That girl with the deep purple eyes is cool. Just the fact that there is great contrast on the rest of the piece brings out the eyes greatly. Nice touch... except that the huge shadow off to her right throws me off a little. Seems like her cheek bones are way too pronounced.... either that or she got hit by a baseball Awesome work. Keep them coming...

HEY! Haven't posted in almost a week so thought I'd share some stuff I did today..

I've been painting a lot now. Geez, what's with these phases?? hehe.

I think I'm going to change the mountains to black.. I just wanted to try my pearl coat stuff on this.

This one's not done yet, either.. still have a lot to do with the face & hands, but thought the shirt and background looked cool.

Hey long time to see... I'm glad you're back. Just here to checkout the new work. I must say you definitely were busy. The first one of the horizon and the water. I like that the most. Very good. Great portrayal of mood. I think you have been steadily improving. Great work.

    P.S. more Family Guy!!

    hehe family guy rocks !

as for the rest of you more realistic stuff.....i would suggest you to check photos and try to get inspired from all the small parts that the reality is built on...like small surface changes on a face, you kinda draw the "naked" version....imo it looks too clean, add more shapes and stuff...i explain like an ass, hopefully you understand my rant...

    cheers and keep on fighting!

    What's Wrong With Me!!!

Yeah so... a long time ago I mentioned something about a mural, well, I've started it. Here's some progress pics.

    BEFORE:

    AFTER:

    Start of Mural:

I have a lot left to do.. why the hell did I agree to that?!

Stupid palm trees stuck in my HEAD!

Don't even ask me what this is.. this was my first attempt on "real canvas".. you know that stretched stuff, 24x24.. had so many ideas in my head and kept changing my mind. finally i decided to have patience and let it dry. I guess I wanted to post this to show you what it ends up as.

Yeah I know what you mean about big projects. I once promised my parents to paint the entire upstair interior.... stupidstupidstupidstupid!! Well anyways... I like that palm tree next to the mirror. So you're making wall height trees then. How much detail is going into this mural? Are we talking a few palm trees here and there.... or a whole beach scene with sailboats and whales coming out of the ocean, huge sunset and fluffy clouds? I'm glad I can't paint. Nobody would ask me to pencil up their bathroom I really like that next pic with the single palm tree near the water. That purplish background is awesome. Keep working at that last piece it looks like you got something good going. I'm looking forward to the finished product. Later!

Dark-I actually started to do a whole beach scene, but I realized I'd waste ALL my paint (and it's expensive!) and it wouldn't look the way I wanted it to. I did almost an entire wall and decided I didn't like it and painted over it with the beige color.
I'm planning to make the archway look like stone. It took me maybe 10 minutes to do that palm tree (and it shows, I guess lol. not done yet tho. ceilings are 12') so I really don't want to make it look cluttered or cheap. Honestly, I really don't know what else I'm going to do! I thought I had it all planned out but I was wrong.

If anybody's got any ideas on what would look nice in there, let me know!

Hey there, still busy painting I see, good good

About the mural, well, that's a very big project you have in mind there... I guess you should make some concepts, first before starting to bring it on the walls. That way you can make some plans and see what works and what doesn't.

I like your environments very much, btw. I mean the mountains and the palm scene.

Well, green's my favorite color so I thought I'd paint a little something for myself.. It's not completely finished yet, just have to let it dry and add some details.. maybe something flying in the sky or a boat or something. i don't know.

    hope you like it. 18x36

Hey I like that moon in the clouds piece. Very cool. Greens your favorite color? My cars green! Hey you should sketch out what the design of the bathroom is going to look like first to put it into perspective. Start with one wall and sketch everything in it, like the sink, mirror...etc, and then sketch in the graphics behind it. Then go from there. If you can get a variation of that one piece with the purplish sky and the palm tree on a bare wall, that would be awesome. I'm sure you can come up with something cool. You have a lot of creativity. If you get stuck I'll come down and draw a nekkid lady on one of the walls for ya! Thats something I'm good at! All the best.. Later!

Sup Cobi Some nice stuff going on here. I would suggest you mess around with the colors more and give them more depth by varying the values. As far as pencils/dry medius go I think it feels like you are drawing in 2D rather than 3D. The visuals tend to be very flat. I know this may be a stylistic choice, but I would just like to see you hit up more shades in between. Take a 2B pencil and make the darkest blotch you can and then make another dark blotch that is a tiny bit lighter than the first and so on. Once you get the hang of it you can play with the darks and lights at will. And now I have to go back and study color more Keep it up a passion should never be neglected

    Bye!!

Unfortunately I don't have any new art to post at the moment.. Have been busy.. I'm going away for a week and didn't feel right not having anything to post!!!

So this is the picture I used for reference in the night fishing above.. I took this at Silver Lake, CA on a camera phone.

I'll have some art when I get back! Won't have anything else to do for 3000 miles.

Think about how objects turn in space. Think about edges and surfaces. From some of your work, it doesn't seem like you are keeping that in mind. With your blue gorilla, the highlight on the right side of the nose makes it turn in a way as if someone punched him there. It is turning in a way noses don't turn. Same idea with Chris' arm in your family guy illustration, he looks to wobbly. I see a lot of potential here and if you take the time to study structure and shapes, your work will greatly improve.

    My hot friend, Eric.

JAR-thanks!! I'm family guy'd out for right now.. Love the show, but spent a week straight watching it over and over again. haha.

Dark-Hey bud, thanks for the comment. The trip only lasted about 5 days (which is 3 shorter than expected). It sucked. The old neighborhood was very disappointing so we only spent a few hours there. Car ride was fun, though!!
