Looks good. I love the guy with the earring. Reminds me of a guy I knew. I have one comment. It may have been what you were going for, so it if is forget what I'm about to say. However, if not, keep this in mind. There are multiple planes of the face. The cheeks, the temples, the eye sockes. They are all different planes. When you are cross hatching, try to keep in mind what the planes are and determine if hatching in different directions based on the planes will make the face/head look more 3 dimensional.

Otherwise, I like it, I can't do pen like that...

Whatever you do, don't look at my Sketchbook and Painting Thread!

Hey there, i must say that i really like the Christopher Walken painting, it really gives you a good picture of the man himself, with the heavy contrasts between black and white, some shapes are off (looks like he has a labret piercing) but the atmosphere is there and its great.

Not to much constructive crits but i'll keep watching and give crits to up to date posts!

    Acrylics

I wasn't too happy with the way this one came out (the colors) but what can ya do...

I don't have anymore canvas boards at the moment so I used my art box, the thing I keep all my paint in.. hence "cobi's paint"

Comments/Crits always welcome. I need the advice!

Right on.. I think it's cool. Still can't beat that Walken piece though. But now you can keep your stuff in a stylish place.

Hi Cobi! Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. Thought I'd return the favor and see what you're up to.
I like the variety of work you've got here. i really like the Sharpie drawings. Have you ever used Adobe Illustrator. I bet you could do some interesting things with it, kind of in a similar style as the Sharpies. Keep up the good work.

Please stop by my new Anatomy Sketchbook and critique the hell out of it.

    Hi Cobi,
I was just browsing through your stuff. I really like your camel ad thing. the face looks really good. Your figure drawings aren't as bad as you think. Keep practicing using real people. Using magazines is ok, but its better if they are three dimensional. My life drawing teacher taught me alot of useful techniques using sighting and measuring. I always hated sighting and measuring, but its quite handy once you learn how to do it correctly. I know I didn't really help much because its kinda hard to explain sighting and measuring, without showing you, but maybe you can find a tutorial or something for it somewhere.
Good job on the acrylics by the way. I hate painting.

Hey long time now talk to. Your stuff is coming along. I like the piece of the two horses and the last piece with the head shot. Thats really good. The lips are slightly weird to me only because there is a line that extends way into the cheek area. Kind of gives the saggy cheek look. But hey, you've seen my stuff I'm hardly the expert at telling you how to draw lips Well keep up the great work. I'll be checking back. Later

    More!

Hey Dark, I can always count on you to leave me some feedback. Thanks bud Yeah, that's actually a painting OF my sister for my sister (the b&w/blue face). She's funny lookin' hehe, kidding, i love you Jo!

Well, Faces are one of my weak spots (I know, I have many), so I decided to work on those today. In order:

    Yeah, John Travolta!!

    Some chick

    I WANTED TO COLOR!!! (pastels)

This one sucks, but hey, that's what I get for spending 15 minutes on it.

Any comments/crits would be HELPFUL and appreciated.

    Thanks for lookin.

Wow you were right when you said you had a lot of painting going on heh. Great stuff. I definitely need to start doing some paintings.

Oh I checked out some of the art on that Sublime cd. Does kinda look like mine hehe. Kinda makes me wanna color mine in too.

Hey maybe a stupid question but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to painting. Is it possible on canvas if you're painting in acrylic to just cover it with white or something so you can re-use it and paint over? I figure it'd be good practice for me to just paint something everyday and paint over it the next day because stuff is expensive

Its great to see that you are again picking up your interest in art in your spare time. But if you really want to improve a lot, life drawing will help you out a great deal. But of course, depending on what your artistic goals are. Some of your more realistic drawings are looking too cartoony and flat. There are also some good books out there too, such as Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life, Hogarth's Dynamic Wrinkles and Joeseph Sheppard's Anatonmy: A Complete Guide for Artists. But personally, I think you would benefit greatly from taking some classes. Keep drawing and sketching.

Hey Smith, appreciate the info. Will look into it.

Deez- Thanks!! I want to be better at painting that's why I'm crankin' em out hehe.

B-man- are big mouths that bad of a thing?

Practicing skin tone. These are all pictures of stuff not scans, the quality isn't as good

Wanted to draw something for my brother.. he likes zombies.. but I don't know if I like it better with or without a background. What do y'all think?

Hey, back again.... I like that Elvis piece. I really like that pic of the girl with her arm raised (the practice on skin tones pic). I really like how you got her face just right, in my opinion. You do tend to draw oversized lips (I'm the one to talk) but in this pic you got everything balanced nicely.

Wow Cobi, the june 8th pic of the girl. That's an "afterglow" picture if I ever saw one. Did you use a reference? Mirror? Just curious.

    More Pastel

Hey Dark! Thanks for the comments. I'm working on the lips thing, trying to size them down but they're just so damn nice!

Hylandr2 = hehe no i wasn't lookin' in a mirror. Dirty.. jk. I was flippin thru some magazines, stealing poses I liked and using different lighting i saw.

Here's a few things I did today... I went to the art store yesterday and all their stuff is really cheap.....so i got some things to experiment with.

Using a pose from an Angelina Jolie pic, practicing with some retarder gel / acrylics:

I didn't like how it came out in paint, so I tried it in sharpie/pastels in my new 14x17 sketchbook!

I didn't like how that one came out, so I went on to the next page and tried Marilyn Monroe:

...And then I killed it with color. I guess some things are better left untouched! Yeah so I guess this is Marilyn's mom.. say hi

Comments/Crits welcome! Just don't be too mean, I'm sensitive

    Hey Cobi,
On the Angelina Jolie pic in pastels, you have a couple lines that would better not being there. The two lines at the bridge of her nose would be better accented with changes in color value, like you did very well on her arm, rather than a line. The indentation in her top lip would be the same way. Try to achieve the same affect of the line with a the value changes. Lines around the lips the same way (unless they are wearing lip liner). Keep at it!!!

Whatever you do, don't look at my Sketchbook and Painting Thread!

    More Pastels

Hylandr-Thanks for the tip.. I outline all the main lines I see then depending on how I like it in black and white I'll put some color on it. I gotta pay closer attention to those crease lines though

Nizard-Thanks for stoppin' by!! Metallica rocks.

So I've really been diggin' these pastels...
I would have liked to paint today but I'm at my Moms house and didn't bring it with me.. Shnap!
Hope you like these.. Both in my new 14x17 sketchbook.

    Unfinished w/ sharpies:

Another Elvis... I'm really not that big of a fan but my future sister in law is
(The right eye is higher then I'd like it to be.. It looked perfect in pencil but I followed the wrong line outlining! Oh well, I still think it looks neat)
