    Cobi's book! (Kinda) Updated 04/01/08

This website is pretty cool. Getting to see all styles of art..

I used to draw a lot in high school, then I graduated and started working and poof, there went my time... I just picked it back up a few months ago. During those months I have done stuff with pastels, acrylic paint and oil paint for the first time! It's very exciting.

What I'm hoping to achieve here is, of course, the lovely "constructive criticism".

    So here we go!

Thanks for the advice, Icey.. I know it's a problem.. I'm a little obsessive about it, when I start something I want to "finish" it the best I can.

Will put up some shaping pics here soon.

    I haven't slept yet and it's almost 7am. I think I drank a little too much.

While I was sobering up I drew some AWESOME stuff in my friends sketchbook... Hmm... Weird...

So, maybe I'll get to borrow his book and share them with y'all, hopefully he'll bring my jacket and my cigarettes I left over there as well.

cool, the last one is definately the best, IMO however i don't think it's what Icey is getting at. I think he'd rather you do something from reality than your head, think of your head like a world apart from reality... If you only picked things from inside your head all the time you wouldn't really learn/get anywhere. But if you pull things from reality and force yourself to adhere to your eye and treat the drawing as a "test" then you're going to get somewhere with the figure/face.

nice stuff, not so much of concept work but i always enjoy some art!

about your faces, i would recommend you to draw from refference alot, find some photos and try to copy them exactly... i can see that you have some issues with shading... heres a tip : Squint your eyes and look at the reffference and then at your picture, does it match ? no/yes ? whats missing ? what should be removed...

    sweet stuff nontheless!

    cheers!

Thank you very much for the comments!!

Greg-I guess I was off a little bit then, huh?! hehe. Will try doing a variety of stuff... Starting today!

Bob-That's where I want to be, too!!!!!! Except the sand is a little bit dirty!!

Hurri-THanks very much for the tip.. Shading has always been difficult for me. I have a steady hand but don't know how to hold the pencil, that's why I hold a paintbrush more often. I'm going to try that advice today and we'll see what happens!

I'm looking forward to getting other crits here, so please, feel free to share anything you think will help improve my stuff.

    Thanks for viewing!

    Help!!

Okay, don't laugh, this was my first ever "experiment" with Paint Shop Pro, yep, PSP, not Photoshop

I wanted to get a better idea of how I wanted to finish the painting I included in my first post up there somewhere. This IS NOT going to be a "digiart" piece, I'm using acrylics!

Anyways, why I'm posting this is I need your help!! I laid out the basic shapes I want and changed some colors, but I need some ideas for the background, should there be one? ANY ideas are appreciated!! I will be breakin out the brushes later on today to finish this.

    Thanks!

I thought the original up top looked good already. But the "experiment" version has a more more mysterious feel to it. It looks good. You know me and dark contrasts. The overall black brings out the red really well. I don't know about the background, it may just end up cluttering the overall piece. But thats my 2 cents. Good luck, I like it so far. Later

    Another Painting!! Weehee!

Yup. This is supposed to be Christopher Walken, but I see a little James Dean in there, too. I did this one in about 3 hours tonight on 16x20 canvas board w/ acrylics. There's a glare above his head, but in person it's all pitch black.

Hey there, that Tomb Raider piece is awesome. Very nice job, but the last one of Christopher Walken is by far my favorite. You know me and dark shading. I think it brings out a great deal of character with the shadows. Did you use a photo reference? Great job, I can't wait to see more. I'll be checking back. Later

Hey thanks for the comment/feedback!! I was surprised that the Walken one turned out the way it did.. I did use a photo ref, one that was about 2''x2'' lol. It was fun. I'll be working on a mural here the next week or so. I'm excited to be able to share that with y'all, too!!

    Take care

    Hey Cobi,
Thanks for stopping by my thread. I was just strolling through yours, figuratively, and The Christopher Walken piece jumped out at me. I am drawn to the high contrast of the blacks to whites. Nice composition. I can't comment on the painting as much since I'm a boob and you know more than me. I'd like to see more darklight work. Also, I noticed that you said that you don't do much full body art. Give it a try. Let's see where you go with it.

BTW, your profile pic is cool....was a fan blowing your hair around???

Hey bud, yeah, no! I was actually sitting in my roommates chair and I held the camera above my head and looked up.. pretty fancy huh?

I love painting.. I prefer it over drawing because I suck at it. I hate drawing full bodies because I suck at that, too! But I will try if ya want me to. I guess I should practice it, I might need it someday.

So I started priming the bathroom gettin' ready for that mural I'm gonna paint (my first commissioned mural! ...my first mural ). Went to the store to get my supplies and the paint I wanted they DIDNT have.. that's service for ya. So, primer is all I got. Primer's my friend. Primer makes Cobi have headaches and sweat a lot. It's really gross. Primer makes my nose hairs white

...Primer also makes me delerious. I will go now.

Thanks for the comment Hylandr and I will do some stuff for ya when I'm done with the bathroom!

There's some talent here! I like your paintings, especially the walken and the one with the monk and the child. Very moody

If you haven't got anything else to do, you should study some more anatomy. The studies you posted are a good start but there's still much to make it better. At the skull, for instance, the yaw is actually a seperate piece of bones which is attached to the rest of the skull.

Keep on going, you're already way better than me!

your knowledge of anatomy is amazing :o
do you study from books or just from life? first, i'd like to see some more rendered out things, as well as some nice pencil sketches. sketches can be very quick while still allowing a lot of learning to occur. also, i wanna see some more FULL figures! keep it up-
