i like the zombie from the front, but in the profile he's standing too straight and tall. imo, zombies should be an odd, shuffling combination of rigormortis joints and limp muscle tone. just my $0.02. it's always great to see MB work...I can see the zombie in any RE game, but that second guy is way fugly, any hints on what title he'll appear in?
I like the Minion.
not for orthographs...you do that AFTER the model is rigged. You want ortho monsters in as neutral pose as possible for the modelers to build from.Originally Posted by bwkeough
experience.....body type was per client specifications.
This looks like Hellgate London stuff. I can't wait for that game.
I think the designs looks great.
you can hardly make out the designs theres so much black thrown into everything.
the ideas pretty dope tho, im loving that second ones head
No man should be less than what he is.
nice stuff i wanna see more.
about how much time went into those?
love the hooligan zombie. fantastic expression on his ex-face, like he's still got a couple of post-football match rampages left in him the minion doesn't do it for me quite as much. something to do with the proportions and the various design elements don't feel completely cohesive.
what were these done for?
woa imagine getting kissed by that minion! , great stuff, really like the textures and the use of paint
Wow, so you must be working on Hellgate: London... if I'm not mistaken. I'm looking forward to it! And great concepts!

That's good but others say your stuff has improved so much today... Why don't you show us your latest paintings?
Great rendering and design Jason, but the functionality fascist in me needs to know what those loops hanging off his arms are. Is it part of a straightjacket?
I love the design of the business arm of the second dude. Very cool.
But did he really need a skull on his kneecap?
Seriously cool stuff.

I love the zombies, Just wondering, why does he not have a head in that one pic. I'm really not too crazy about that last guy. Its rendered with the usual awesomeness, but he seems a little generic in design to me. The pose seems a little weird too. I like the lava looking smolder going on with his right arm though.
I don't spellcheck...
Man... great things happen when great artists team up.
Fantastic work, Jason and Rich!! Did you guys have any art direction on these, or was it purely from your noggins?
we do what the clients ask. the way characters are done nowadays is thumbnails get done by the dozen..then it goes through a bracket of decisions to the final. we have zero say in this process and follow direction to a T. It is all directed by the clients and it is our job to give them exactly as they ask for. the minion shot is one of the near final designs which then ended up getting ortho'd out.
the zombie image is simply for the modeler and texture artist to have a clear idea of what to make. its pose is neutral. its parts are seperated...for example no arm on the side shot so they can see the torso...the modeler knows what an arm looks like from the side so we just left it off so he could get the proportions the client asked for. the clients do not like paying for extra work so we save them money by not painting everything..always trying to keep budgets within reason. This is production stuff...not fine art by any means.
attatched here is a shot of the cinematic version of the Minion we designed created by Jonas Thornqvist through Blur. this will give you an idea for how he actually looks in the movies for the game. yummy! The final concepts we did had multiple claw arms for the client to choose from. They chose the claw here on this model which rich and I painted up...mostly rich..his tech is way better than mine.

Here is a shot of the in game zombie our man alessandro baldasseroni did. (he has multipe outfits and this stuff is for some of their marketing materials I believe...thus the logos and such)
I love seeing concept art made into fully rendered 3D models. Such a collaboration!
