Hello, Oregano. This composition is really something special. Sketch is so intriguing and mysterious. Lines are very emotional. I don't even want any colors. I'm already captivated with one line sketch. The image is not dark, on white background, but the mood is here, insinuating, poisonous, sly, as I see it. I love this ambiguous scene and strange poses and faces.

Hot stuff 'Reg! I love the gesture and line work. I'll agree with what some people have said over in the CHOW thread-- I would love to see you drop the PS overpaint and go straight graphite on this. I think the digital stuff is actually detracting from the piece right now.

Looks like this is going to be another unfinished CHOW for me...

Hey, Oregano. Your word is the most important of course, but i think if you will make shadows darker and deeper, the drawing will become more nervous and tension rising. I would surround all figures with black ( but slightly textured with dots and thin streaks), especially the two guys on my right. You know like faces are pulled by light from the darkness. And I would add some noise like thin broken lines, scratches, dots, to make the drawing breath more. Overall I like it lot.

    dragon painting wips

Hey Sok! Glad to see you are still in the land of the living!
Sve, you're most likely right about the picture, but I'm done with it and not really motivated to go back to it - kind of burnt myself out on it...

Anyway, here's some wips for a painting I'm working on right now:

current wip - the hair won't be white, that's just so I have clean canvas to lay in the color, which will be a reddish auburn.

More as I get it done.

    Cheers all,
    ~Oreg.

Whelan is one of the coolest, nicest, most *human* people you could ever hope to meet - he's one of my earliest inspirations and a fantastic artist and remains a solid influence to this day.

Others who are strong influences for me are Donato Giancola, Todd Lockwood, and Micheal Kormack , along with a lot of the guys here on the boards

    Cheers,

Hey Van - I didn't get an email update letting me anyone had visited this thing... Hope you're doing well bro.

Okay, just for you (Not finished, but done in graphite) a couple of small ones I've been playing around with the past couple of days - we seem to be thinking along the same lines about the graphite...

Anyway, the first one is just doodles, the second on is just slightly more than doodles.

Anyway, there's some obvious errors with a couple of them, but what the hell. I decided that I really don't like sketching digitally. It's more work doing it analog, but I think the results are better, and a good kneady eraser is a servicable stand-in for an "ctrl-z"

    Cheers bro,
    ~Oreg.

Ho Shane, you're kidding ? Your graphite stuff (is "graphite" mean "wood pen" ?) is probably better that mine ! For sure ! It's very clean for graphite, wow !
I dig a lot the attitude of the second set. Specialy the guy who cross his arm (not easy with a sword-don't try this at home, kids !).
Hope see more stuff from you. Cheers, and before I leave,
    Merry X-mass, Shane !

    Shane--

Hot stuff. I love the graphite stuff, especially the (elf?) at the bottom right of the last one. Great attitude in the face and hands. Is there any ref being used for these?

I used ref (sort of) for the two women in the first sketch. And consequently screwed them up.

I typically don't use a lot of specific references - that is, the faces, expressions, stances, characters, etc. are mine. But I'll ref a basic hand position (usually several) or a posture to keep things looking "right", if that makes sense.

    Makes perfect sense.

Hands without ref are the bane of my existence. And since yours looked so nice... well I had to wonder. Great stuff!

    Hey oregano,

really enjoyed your last ChOW, which had been a while I think. oh and I saw the post u started in the lounge, 2 years, and you've come heaps and I hope you keep progressing further towards your goal.

Awsome drawings in your last post and the dragon is looking sweeet. Also good on you for looking after ChOW, though i think you are going to have a handful this week with all the entries.

    cheers!
