She looks wonderful and yet i can't help but say that everything could be a bit darker. Bring that lighting from the city above down more into the picture to bring the drama out. Wonderful stuff, Shane. I wish I had your imagination.

I like the last painting. I like it when I saw it first time in CHOW thread. It is really outstanding. Many details and I like her stubborn straightforward hair. The one thought, I agree with van. It's confusing what time of the twenty-four hours in the painting, Around her it feels like a day time. Far away apparently night.
I enjoyed all those textures in this painting, I like this filthy puddle and shadows a lot.
About the battle scene. Image too small. I have a problem to see all the details.

Hmm, now that van mentioned it, she does seem perhaps a bit brightly illuminated considering the night sky. If there's a streetlamp or something there, she'd be lit more harshly from above. Other than that, my only crit is her right arm. It looks pretty long from shoulder to elbow. Small crits though...it's a fantastic piece and one of your best. It's amazing how quickly and professionaly you are working these days. Send me a postcard (or a PM) when you're rich and famous.

    Cow Entry

this is my entry for this weeks' COW - the Messenger of Death.

Replies later. I'm beat. 52 unbelievable entries for CHOW. Go vote and check it out. You won't be dissappointed.

    The Sandman Calleth.

    ---

    :: Description ::
The Sorcerer Kings of Theod were assassinated almost as soon as they ascended the throne, the longest reigning was Ulithe Red Eyes, Daemon Seeker.

In the early part of his reign, Ulithe Red Eyes created a race of golems of the darkest sorcery to help protect his rule, bestowed with the life blessing of his god Isid the Blind. These abominable creatures, created from the bones of animals sacrificed to his god, wrapped in the salted skins of his foes and imbued with Soul Sight, could sense the intentions of those around them, flushing out Ulithes' enemies and thus prevent attempts on his life. Disturbingly, however, they could also sense the immanent departure of a person’s soul and often congregated around those who’s time had come, much to the horror of family on deathwatches. They were not killers, however, preferring to wait until one’s mortal time had passed before feeding.

In the early part of his reign, Ulithe Red Eyes kept them tightly controlled, making them serve alongside his advisors – just a small number -- few could stand their presence, or smell, for long. But as time went on, he found other uses for them, and thus lessened his control over them. He found that their presence among those not accustomed provided a psychological advantage as well. Ulithe took a certain pleasure in dispatching his golems to summon his adversaries – allowing them to sweep through the city to publicly escort his would be assassin to court for execution.

Called the “Messengers of Death” privately by the population of Theod, all cringed at their passing outside the palace walls. Their presence was feared and dreaded by all, and none dared to gaze into their sightless eyes for fear of utter madness.

It was believed that when Ulithe Red Eyes passed, his abominations would cease to exist. However, much to the despair of Theod, and Ulithe’s successor, they did not. Instead, they dispersed into the wild lands around the city. They at first sustained themselves as scavengers feeding on animals recently dead and claiming kills of predatory creatures. There, the Messengers seemed to flourish for a time, breeding and leaving the human settlements alone. And for a short while the city of Theod slept easy and the dying passed quietly. But it was not long before Messengers returned and spread, preferring their more abundant supply human sustenance.

Controlling them is difficult, as none have held mastery over them that Ulithe Red Eyes, Daemon Seeker ever did, but occasionally a sorcerer will manage to dominate one or two, and a new era of terror will clutch Theod, but never as in the darkest days of Ulithe’s reign.

Cool COW piece Shane! That M-O-D belongs in one of Tim Burtons movies - or it came out of one!! Kinda creepy. Guess that was the idea. Very nicely executed though.

If ya haven't noticed, I don't have time for much for anything else (drawing wise) except for ChOW. After having taken a Character Design class (man, am I glad its done though! ) I am hooked on creating characters. I see that as one of my best attributes for my career, and a professor once commented on my work in class as being of the quality to get into storyboarding - well, you know the work we created in the past.

Needless to say, your COW MOD has impressed me of your diverse creativity. Makes me wanna jump in on COW. (Man I cannot wait til I am done with that college degree!!!!! ------ going insane with homework!!!)

    Heya,

Figured that there wasn't a point after being rejected out of hand by Fozz, but I went ahead and added it above for you.

I was going to vote that one for sure until....fozzy jumped in.. It certainly has the death theme all over the image and I love it! Nicely executed and colours awsome. Damn, maybe it's the posture, a standing pose that sort of gives that human look. awsome stuff nonetheless and good on you for organising ChOW. cheers

very cool Oregano! your concepts are cool.
there's something weird with your color palette, though. do you mix your colors with white to brighten them? if so, you should consider just using yellows/light colors to brighten your image, instead of white. when using white, the image can become desaturated and faded very quickly. also, i think it'd be cool if you integrated some more complex compositions into your works. you could start studying the basic circular and zigzag composition layouts and start playing around with those. i dunno man, just keep experimenting!
    keep it up-

Shane, don't know if I posted to your Battle Pic - but it looks sweet! I'm glad you finished it, and I don't blame you for not working on it further - they can tend to stare and talk to you if you spend too much time on them!

    Still working on chow 3!

hmmmm... never really thought about it, but i guess a linear figure just automatically comes across as humanoid while a more horizontal is animal? .... well to me it looked "creature". And this is definitely a nice job! really nice, keep it up man!

    Hey guys, thanks.

Forgot to post this: I went in and did some final edits on the battle scene, and cleared up the flying guy - it was a cool idea, but he just was not working the way I intended

I am *so* done with this.

Bowlin , thanks for the vote of confidence, but the question wasn't whether the creature looked humanoid or not. To be honest, I have no idea why it was disqualified before I even had a chance to submit the description.

Anyway, on to bigger and better things.

    K. Here's a CHOW wip. Most likely the *only* one I'll post before the finish (I've got a lot of real world crap I've got to deal with right now, and dealing with Attorneys takes precident over artwork at the moment or (gasp) posting here....

Nice work! I find the women odly placed in the picture... Maybe some ground would help even out the composition? Keep it up mate..

Interesting. I'm glad you decided to show the rest of her legs, it was kinda awkward. The dragon's anatomy could use some work.
I like the design work and the thinking is coming along nicely. And hey!, who doesn't love chicks and rocks floating in the sky? Keep it up.

Hey Shane, just wanted to comment on your battle scene and the latest Chow 4. I kinda liked the dead carcass flying through the air [now he tells me... ] but it looks good with it lower in the scene. When it was flying, the whole thing had more drama and was electrifying. Still, it looks decent and perhaps helps the entire composition as a whole.

The TransDi-Dragon Hunter looks sweet. Liked the addition of the floating piece of rock in the BG, and diggin the colors - they look like actual watercolors or washed acrylics, kinda like your conventional paint-on-canvas I used to see. (Still miss the smell of turpentine....ahhhh.... )

    Cheers!
