    a lensflare that actually works

holy crap, was going through one of my instructors' sites and found an add he did. it was odd to see a lensflare but even scarier is that you don't even noticed it's a canned lensflare in a couple of the frames

    first part
    second part

    disturbing i tell you...

It's all about knowing how to use it. Most people use filters like lens flare, blur, sharp, burn and dodge without knowing the basics, but pro use them only when they need to, so they would actually look good.

Meh...I don't think that's a particularly astounding example of good lensflare usage. I mean, it's not horrible, but I don't really find it particularly seamless. Stands out just as much as any other use.

All I want to know is how much he bagged for that add. I don't mean to say that the use of lens flare detracts from the work involved, but I imagine that he would be just as amused as anyone that he got paid for a work that incorporated lens flare.

    Red face

Considering the art direction taken in this add (tacky/kitch?) I think it fits very well.

I still hate lense flares tho. Put down the torches people !

The ONLY decent use of a lense flare I've seen is by Craig Mullins in his, now old, work for Bungie. You can see it on his website : > "Commercial work" Category > Bottom Page "Bungie" > PAge 2 > Top left thumbnail.
Edit : ergh I just saw another piece on the same page with the canned 50 mm lenseflare.. I think we're ALL guilty that at one point or another we used the forsaken filter. Oh happy days !
