try drawing the full figure with them muscles, see how those studies will do their work. also, when drawing hands for example, try to see the structure that makes the hand, not just the outline and some shading

Hey there, long time since I swung by here now. Like what I'm seeing, good work on the portraits. Do more of them, if not for you, then for me
I think you need to start from the bottom with the anatomy like Zynic said, start with the bones, work with the proportions at the same time, the bones are landmarks on the body showing on the outside. The muscles are just forms on the outside, they change while the bones doesn't. Same thing apllies with the face, the skull is very important, and the muscles are important when it comes to the faceial expressions. Go for it, leave the big bulky muscles for now.
I liked the hedgehog by the way, the colors were very neutral and had good harmony. So where is it, you said to hyver that you were going to work on it?

    Take care mate. Hugs!

hey man, how is it going?
I like your being so productive with your art, there is a lot of good stuff going on.
What I'm seeing is that your depending too much on the outline, i mean, it's like no matter how well you render the form, is not working with the outline, try working with light lines in the light area and dark in the shadow areas. Also you can use line weight to give more depth and volume.
You should push more the values, the faces in the last post look very flat. When you can't see well the values, squint your eyes and you'll get your light and shadow areas to work from. Even you can do that first, a quick value sketch to guide you through the more finished study.
Anyways, hope it helps and you can understand what i'm trying to say (my english is out of shape these days) and just keep drawing and drawing, working hard man.
    Cheers.

Hey wakazou, thanks for posting in my sketchbook, And i wanted to say that i am very much enjoying your process right now! Keep cranking out those sketches. Try to slow down with a portrait every now and again and look full range of values. I know you can do because your rendering skills have progressed very rapidly, I guess i need to take my own advice and so some finished portrait work. Well anyhow keep working hard.

Nice stuff man, keep doing those life studies I still think that there are a little to many "Conan the barbarian" kind of muscular men though, I´d suggest doing some normal built or even skinny looking characters. And I just love the hedgehog with the gasmaks!

hey Waka, your facial studies are consistent have a go and paint one or two up and yes, I want animals! How about I let you show me your interpertation of a pig-lizard? Then again I did ask Cercie to draw a Rabbit with Cloths for eyes.... and she left our SSG, so maybe Ill withdraw my offer.

i actually really like the insects, esp the praying mantis, some cool sketches, but perhaps you could spend a little bit more time on them, and theyd look that much better again, i see improvement here but perhaps spend some time on just one piece

Cool bugs! Even though you think they suck, I think they're pretty successful! Seems you are pushing a bit more with regards to thinking actively when you draw.. And I'm gonna join the chorus and say the mantis rocks

    Keep 'em coming!
