With all the hype being generated by the Joshua vs. Marko thread, we started talking in IRC, and decided not to let the mods have all the fun.
We're not quite Newbies, but we're definitely not pro's, so we decided to try and match wits, and see what we could come up with. We figured we're all about the same age (within a couple years) and all could use a challenge to take our work to the next level, and make some definitive examples of what our work looks like now. For many of us, the last time we finished something was...who even knows.

Updates may be posted in either your sketchbook, or a WIP thread of it's own, but don't post the image directly in this thread. You may however post a link to the image, or the post containing it, in a reply to this thread.
Let's get it ON !!
I tried to find a way to make "steampunk space kittens" actually work. Here's my entry (with 2 hours to spare ):
Arrival of the Space Kittens
Professor M and his assistant successfully managed to open a hole to another time and space, but they never expected kittens, armed space kittens.
and a detail shot here
the sun had fallen down and the billboards were all eering....and the flags all dead at the top of the their poles... the buildings tumbled in on themselves.mothers clucthing babys..picked throught the rubble and pulled out their hair...the skyline was beutiful on fire... all twisting metal strecthing upwards..everything washed in a thin orange haze. it was like a daydream.. a fever...it was truly the end of days.........noone was really shore how it happened...or who set of the first bomb...civilization...mankind...it was supposed to be no more.... it was supposed to be the end.... but it wasnt...
I meant to have this finished by midnight, but the art-theft fiasco that occurred earlier this afternoon ate up a lot of my free time. It was one of those matters that required my immediate attention. Some of you from IRC know what the deal was. Long story short, someone stole some of my work and posted it as their own.
I'll post a finished one in a few hours.
Let's say judging begins tomorrow morning?
These are looking good, btw.
first try... then final. I spent to much time on the detail and didn't notice the mistakes in the comp... so I just started over
It's late, but here it is:
Alright, the concept here was that there was something along the lines of a group of pilots named space kittens. This would be their commanding officer, I guess. I had another one started, but scrapped it for this one. I finished the whole thing tonight. Also, I wanted to be vague about the kitten aspect of the concept.
Let's get started on the next one.
