    Sketchbook Support Group

Hey all, I'm one of those people who has started a couple of sketchbooks here, but never really stuck with them. Even though I'm drawing everyday, I'm not drawing as much as I should, and sometimes find it difficult to keep pushing after a couple hours.

So basically what I'm suggesting is that we get a group together, to post some of our art everyday, and that everyone in the group would crit everyone else's stuff and try to keep each other motivated. I'm think between 6-8 people per group, because having to crit 20 people's sketchbooks every single day would eat up valuable drawing time. Obviously if you don't have ready access to a scanner or quality digicamera (or a decent art program), it probably wouldn't be worth your while to join up.

Another aspect would be that if you miss a day, everyone in the group harasses you through PMs about having not posted. This kind of thing would help those of us who have trouble motivating ourselves to scan stuff in. Obviously its best if you have your profile set up to email you when you get a new PM, that way you can't just avoid the board if you're feeling lazy.

Obviously if a lot of people wanted to join, we could just break people into groups. I was also thinking that it would be cool to do monthly awards: Most prolific (most pages), Best Crit-giver, Vote for Most Improved, etc.

So, anyone interested? I'll be posting my new sketchbook by noon today, and I'm proposing that we all post at least one page by Midnight (local time) on a daily basis. And if you have any ideas on how to do it better, by all means let me know.

What it comes down to is:
    1. Post at least one page every day.
    2. Post at least one crit in everyone's sketchbook ever day.
    3. PM any member of the group who hasn't posted by the end of the day.

    EDIT:
We now have SketchGroup Lite. Essentially this for the folks who've expressed concerns about not being able to post everyday. There's less pressure to post, but you still get to be part of a group, and get some support. Generally, you should still post at least once a week though, and also crit the other people in Lite as well.

    EDIT:

Seems like a very good idea, but I really don't know if I could keep it up. I should actually be working for school the coming 2 weeks.. I'm a bit scared that it won't work out, but anyway.. I'd like to give it a try. You can still throw me out of the group if I'm not active enough

This is my sketchbook http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=37965 (latest entry: february 9th.. Oww, but I promise you I'll really try. )

Cool, just remember that besides posting your own stuff to crit each others stuff. I'll keep the links to the sketchbooks in this thread, so you can just add this thread to your favorites to make things easy. Noone has to crit mine just yet, cuz I gotta put something decent in there tonight.

I'd love to participate, but I'd be starting a sketchbook from scratch. Would that be alright? I've actually been meaning to start a sketchbook thread at conceptart.org since the workshop in January but I've been very lazy

I'd actually like to participate more in the forums then I have been, so this seems like it'd be a good starting point for me and I could use the art-whoopin'.

Hey man, if you can post on a daily basis the more the merrier. I'm starting my new sketchbook from scratch anyway, so you won't be alone in that.

Sounds like a great idea, I would love to sign up but I have way too many deadlines for school and such to meet up.
I might later on, because I need the kick in the butt to move forward.

    Count me in.

I'll have a new one up everyday, starting tomorrow. If not, I'm expecting a punch in the kidneys....ok, so maybe just a slap on the wrist.

Awesome idea anyway that it goes.

Oh, I'm definitely in... We'll probably have to make 2 or 3 separate groups. Great idea, SeraphSword! Tell us who the people are in our group and we'll start critting/PM'ing/posting.

OK I broke it up into 2 groups for now, they are in the first post. Since this is starting in the middle of today, it will start officially tomorrow, so make sure to post something and post your crits by tomorrow midnight. As more people join up, I'll add them to the groups we have, then if we got a lot more we can add a new groups or two. Also feel free to crit stuff in the other groups if you feel like it. Couldn't hurt.

Just a side note. Post only things you've done that day, since that's kinda the point. No point in critiquing older stuff, with problems you may have already solved. Glad to see such a positive repsonse. Now git drah'n!

I guess I must start their deserved amount of harrassment.

I'd like to participate in this right now, but only if I can withdraw or become a less productive poster and critic later on... As it is right now, I have time to draw and I'm usually online once or more every day, but that will change after a while.... It would help me get myself to the drawing table every day now when I have the time to get some progress, though.

I'm totally for this. However, I will say up front that posting *every* day is at this point an impossibility for me, but I could certainly hit 3 out of 5 or 4 out of 7 or some such.

If'n y'all 're willin' that is

Mine's up. Oh yeah, and tomorrow night I'll have to hit some homework really, really hard, so I doubt I'll be able to get anything of mine up. I'll try to get in and crit everyone else's, but I probably just will not be able to pick up a pad tomorrow.

Thanks to you all for stepping up so quick, not just with your sketchbooks, but with the crits also. One of the reasons I wanted to start this thing was for those people who might be at the beginner's level, but who post on a regular basis, yet get no crits because everyone is just posting drool comments on the professional threads (granted, I do that too, but the people who need it more are the less polished). Looking good so far. This could really turn into something.

Some suggestions for motivation in case you can't think what to draw:

    Self-portrait a day
Check out the daily sketch group (good for pushing yourself in areas you might not otherwise attempt)
Start a Sketch Diary (draw something significant that happened that day, with text)
Draw your hand (lots of us could use work with drawing hands)
Draw some fanart (the design has been thought up for you, you just add your own style to it)

    Any more suggestions?

hey, this sounds cool. All I have to do is last five minutes while everyone else beats the crap outta me right? And im in? Im doing 3D for work, but trying to sketch a whole lot more in my free time, so I'll do my best to get something new in everyday.

Done some crits for now, will get more detailed when new work is up. Thanks for adding me in the group.

Just a note, I might be in another timezone or be here at other times than the people I'm with, so the time I'm posting every day might differ a lot.

It's already begun. Just try to post something by midnight tonight. If you just got added today, you're given a little leeway, but you definitely have to post something before midnight tomorrow.
