Tired Art Project
Here is a color study I am doing for an art project for one of my classes. We are supposed to depict an emotion or feeling and I chose tired because I was really tired that day when we were choosing themes. Well it's colored pencil over pastel. 8x10 inches in my sketchbook. It's the first real time I have used colored pencils and pastels. For the final piece, I plan on enlarging the head and making it vertical instead of horizontal.

The face seems fine, but compared to the rest of the piece it all look sunbalanced.. The rest of the piece seems way too plain and simple.. Too much solid blue..
Try to be more creative with the background and such, but don't forget about the dude either..

Thanks Kon. I actually spent about 2 hours trying to figure out how to color the face, after that I just got really tired and stopped. I agree about the bland and boring background, I'm not really great at doing backgrounds. I was planning on putting some things back there, but couldn't decide what, any suggestions.

maybe change the background to a 3 dimensional perspective..
I imagine the dude sitting on his bed with the cameral kinda looking down a bit so that you see 3 sides of the bed, the dude all slouched and looking up with that distant gaze.. maybe the drawers next to him with the clock and a stuffed bear that is all droopy and slouched too.. maybe some socks hanging out a drawer, maybe some clothes hanging off the bed.. maybe some shadows along the walls.. I dunno

Those are great suggestions. You just gave me an idea that should hopefully work for the vertical layout I plan on changing it too. Thanks

I think this is the finished version. Sorry for the crappy pics.

I always feel unworthy posting on these boards, but I believe that I can still make a positive and accurate point.
The composition, mood, and message of the piece is increased dramatically from the last version. While I suppose you could continue to refine and tighten the piece, it isn't a photo-realistic thing, and would miss the point.
In my opinion, the piece is finished as it is, conveys the idea wonderfully, and has a very professional feeling to it. This reminds me of modern magazine art at its best. Good Job, you should post it in the finished forum.

Wow, Jesus, those are some of the best words anyone has ever said...err...in this case typed towards me. I just like to let you know that I greatly appreciate it, many many thanks. I just wish that I could take a better picture of it. Well, I'm in the same boat as you, I always feel that my work is unworthy enough to post here, but that is a fear I am getting over. And after seeing all the great stuff here, it only motivates me more to try and improve myself more.
